alcohol and pressure
alcohol and pressure
Does sharing a bottle of wine increase the amount of pressure needed?
As you can see, my machine is an oldie so I can't change the pressure myself. It'll stay a 10 until the cows come home. But if alcohol has a major effect on the amount of pressure needed then I don't want to mess things up but having a glass at night.

One glass, I would say no. This is a complete guess really so don't take my word for it, but I would think you would have to be at least buzzed before it would relax the muscles enough to cause addition problems.Resister wrote:Does sharing a bottle of wine increase the amount of pressure needed?

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. - Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
Re: alcohol and pressure
I haven't seen any particular change in my data with an occasional glass of wine or such. It is really going to depend on the individual though. Now if enough to get pretty tipsy... it could create an environment where there are more events occurring that might be stubborn. Sort of like my pain pills (opiate) for my broken wrist. When I would take 2 at bedtime I saw a slight increase in events and pressure needs (I use APAP). When I would take only 1 pain pill no real change.

Re: alcohol and pressure
I don't drink a lot nor do I drink very often, but I have had a couple nights where I was, shall we say, something more than tipsy. My numbers looked fine, and my machine didn't make any out of the ordinary pressure changes. Of course, I still felt exhausted the next day, but I don't think that had much to do with the apnea.
I think every person is different, though, so your mileage may vary.

Re: alcohol and pressure
Alcohol doesn't appear to make any difference to my numbers.
Some nights my pressure stays below 10, and others it goes to about 15, I suspect the difference is if i'm sleeping on my front or back.

when i've been drunk, my apap will respond accordingly and increase my pressures. funny thing is i actually register lower AHI when drunk, i'm guessing due to the increased pressures.
Re: alcohol and pressure
What F&P model do you have? Are you really sure the pressure can't be changed by a patient using the power of the internet?

It can be changed, I'm sure, but there is not a screen to say what the pressure has been changed to. Yep....it's that old!archangle wrote:What F&P model do you have? Are you really sure the pressure can't be changed by a patient using the power of the internet?

Sounds like it works a bit different for everyone. Guess I will not know for certain until I get a new machine!
