aerophagia - Any long term effects

Does anyone know of any long term effects aerophagia?

To my knowledge, having gas has no long term effects on one's health (aside from being embarrassing and painful).

Absolutely, embarrassment can be for a lifetime. In fact, I'm surprised there hasn't been a court case yet.

Seriously though, if aerophagia is bad enough to cause cramping then it is stressing parts of the intestinal tract. For an otherwise healthy person, I'd guess that it presents a much less serious problem than untreated OSA. That's probably not true for all persons though. I suspect that someone with peritonitis, for example, could very well be endangered by a severe bout of aerophagia.

Of course, I'm not a medical professional (is that an oxymoron?), just an average technical guy trying to connect the dots.
