New Quattro FX -- FFM issues

Post by DaveL » Tue Jul 19, 2011 3:54 pm

I've used it for almost a week. I think it hates me.

I've found more ways to make it leak. Sometimes it covers my eyes, leaving my mouth uncovered. Sometimes it just plain slips apart. Occasionally sounds like a tuba. Must figure I'm lonely and need to talk to my wife.

Funny thing is I feel better,

any ideas?

Dave

edit: thanks for the name comment--fixed. Darn ipad! I didn't cancel the suggested change.

I think you should start by going to the ResMed site and watch the video on fitting the mask. I assume it's a quattro FX. (havent heard of quattrocento)
If you think you have fit it correctly and are still having problems I would then go back to the DME and have thenm re-fit you. Don't waste time. You should have 30 days to return it and if it's not right for you you want to get another mask.

Thanks. And you're right. I didn't cancel the suggested change from my ipad when posting.

I have seen the video. It's very helpful. I've been compliant for 10 years, but have never had the issues I'm experiencing with the mask. Might return and get my money back.

Best,

Another site has a review of the mask and they speak of problems with the mask moving up, covering eyes. Mine does that. It's not a one-horse-pony! it knows a few!

I can sleep for several hours before I'm wakened by leaks, or face burps or whatever. Sometimes it sounds just like a tuba!

The Quattro FX (as with most FFM) works much better with a mask liner. The Pad-a-cheek liner fixed all of my leaking and mask farting issues. I wouldn't be compliant with out it. You'll wish you'd gotten one sooner once it shows up.

I hated it and watched every video out there.. I was told my nose is too small and the mask slides up... So it sits in my closet....

I really like the quattro FX and I dont have the sliding around, moving up problems. I keep the bottom straps fairly snug and allow the top ones to be less snug. My leaks tend to be very low and I find this m ask works better for me than the mirage or ultramirage FFMs
John, in your photo. you show some kind of strap liner. Can you describe it? is it padacheek? I use a padacheek mask liner and I love it, but have not tried strap liners.
thanks

I keep hearing "If you like the Quattro, you will hate the Quattro FX" and vice versa. Well I hate the Quattro so I'm going to try the FX. Since you aren't liking the FX, you should try the Quattro.

With everything that mask is doing and you're feeling better too? Probably because it makes you laugh about the situation - I doubt you're getting outstanding treatment with all the leaking. You've been around a while so you've probably seem posts about home made remedies using t-shirts before ordering anything. I just don't see spending a fortune on add-ons to make a mask work right. You're apparently a patient soul as I would have returned it already.

thanks everyone. I have an appointment Friday two days, to check the fit, the way I wear it, and, touch wood, exchange for another FFM.

I'm loving my Quattro FX, but I think it's very important to put the mask on EXACTLY as they show you in the instructions.(mine didn't come with a video) I've had no problems with leaks, at all, but I did have to slightly modify the headgear, because after a few weeks use, it stretched out quite a bit. I shortened up the straps because they were getting too long, and then there wasn't much material left to attach them. All I did was fold over about 1.5 inches, and then sewed it down ( I did NOT cut the material) and figured I could always reverse the procedure if it didn't work, but it did work, so all is working out well.

I thought the Mirage Quattro was good, but the Quattro FX is much better. I'm feeling much better too.

Glad it works for you. Wish it was for me. I found the video and have been putting it on as they show. I'll try a different pillow perhaps I knock it off when I roll on my side.

best

I know I kept having a lot of leaks when I used a regular bed pillow. As soon as I rolled onto my side, the Quattro FFM would be levered up and off of my face. I got the Buckwheat Hull pillow from our hosts and it helped a lot. It is only 12x18 in size, and I keep it somewhat firm, so when I roll over, my head is supported quite well, while my cheeks/mask are a 'hanging in the air' instead of pressing down into the pillow.
