I haven't been posting lately. I got sick over a week ago and am just starting to feel like I am returning to "normal". Luckily, I received my Ultramirage FF mask prior to geting sick, I would have been stuck with only my Aura otherwise. Overall, I like the Ultramirage, I will probably switch back and forth between my two masks (Ultramirage, Aura). The Ultramirage leaks less, at least so far.
I am VERY tired today, even though i thought I slept well. My card reader came a few days ago, but I am dependent an my more technologically inclined hubby to get it all set up (as in, I really don't even know what a driver is...) I am looking forward to seeing what my numbers are and hope that I will then be able to do some fine tuning.
I also appealed my insurance for payment of my APAP (i bought out of pocket because I couldn't stand another day of runaround with the insurance and Gentiva). They denied my appeal. I can appeal it one final time, within the next year. I get angry whenever I think about it. I decided I will get my smart card/reader set up and track my progress for a while, and then forward it to my primary doctor for him to add his thoughts before my final appeal. I also figured I would just wait until I had some more energy for the next round with insurance.
Although I can see improvements, I am somewhat frustrated with the whole CPAP thing. In retrospect, I must have had "REM rebound" the night of my split sleep study. I felt SO good that morning after 3 hours of CPAP treatment for titration (and that was even after how bad part of the study made me feel, with swallowing air, puffy eyes, etc..).. but energy wise, WOW! I thought, heck, a few days of complete treatment, I will be as good as new. Now, I have read more since then, and know that thought process was naive, but still held out a little hope that I would be one of the lucky ones who felt better immediately. Apparently, I am greatly "in debt" at my "sleep bank".
Again, I do see some improvement, but apparently I was a little unrealistic in my expectations. I am looking forward to getting my smart card/reader setup so I can start finetuning even more, in hopes of streamlining my recovery.
Sorry to dump, just kinda' frustrated/tired/grouchy/ and impatient
Take care,
Tash (newgal)

Hey New Gal
Not sure if you got around to reading my post yesterday, but I pretty much was complaining of the same thing. I have been on this therapy for a month the first two weeks I was mouth breathing with the nasal mask I was using, so I guess those two weeks don't count, but the past two weeks I have been using my Full Face mask religiously every night, not ripping it off in the middle of the night or anything, and I don't feel any different. Infact this past weekend, I slept 12 hours saturday night and 13 Sunday. (which is what I basically have done for 10 years, on weekends I play "catch up " for the crappy sleep I get during the week)
I was under the impression from reading a lot of people's posts that I would feel this HUGE life-altering difference in the quality of my life, but insead I feel the same as before I started down the cpap road. No leaks in my masks, no problems with me falling asleep or keeping the mask on all night, so I don't understand why I don't feel better.
People posted to me yesterday to not give up that for some people if they have severe OSA it takes awhile to make up the sleep debt, and that some people who have it mild, might notice right away a difference
Good Luck, I'm sure we will both make progress. Its hard not to be impatient, but its wonderful to have support from others who understand the trials and tribulations of living with the hose.

Thanks Suzy! I know it's all in the perspective, I have had it (undiagnosed) for at least 9 years, and probably since I was a teen, so how I should expect it to be cured in 3 weeks is kinda funny. I have moderate to severe SA, so I guess it will take several months to come out of the sleep deprivation my body has had.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. We can both cheer each other, and all of our other fellow hoseheads, on.
Take care,
Tash
