Post by ThomasMcKean » Mon Jul 11, 2011 3:24 pm

Could someone please to explain the difference between C-Flex, C-flex+, and A-Flex?

http://aflex.respironics.com/

Upper right corner of the pages offers the other flex descriptions. I have tried C Flex and A Flex. Hard to describe the differences. For me a breathing rhythm change that was ever so slight. I found A Flex setting of 1 suits my particular respiratory pattern but since these are comfort features individual preference will vary from person to person.

K this might help me cuz from what I read of that site, the S8 EPR system looks like something inbetween C-Flex and C-Flex+. That's really what I wanted to know. Thanks.

Nope, ResMed's "EPR" is not like C-Flex or C-Flex+ or anything in between those two. Nor is EPR like A-Flex, either.

Respironics' various "flex" features work quite differently from the way ResMed's "EPR" works.

How much the pressure is reduced, and what the design does during the exhalation, and as the exhalation starts to dwindle, and after the exhalation is finished, and before the person starts to try to breathe in again -- all those things are handled very, very differently by Respironics' "flexes" and ResMed's "EPR."

The only thing they have in common is that both manufacturers came up with designs to try to make breathing out easier and more comfortable when using a single straight pressure. An autopap uses a "single straight pressure", too... an autopap simply can vary that single straight pressure if operating in "autotitrating" mode. So a feature (flex or EPR) that makes the pressure drop when exhaling can make using "CPAP" (whether in CPAP or APAP mode) more comfortable for some people.

Although that topic was about C-Flex in a Respironics machine, my replies in that thread also talk about EPR used by ResMed machines.
