Help, I need some info, HELP

Post by Cato » Tue Jul 05, 2011 3:30 pm

Hi,
I bought a Remstar System One A Flex from the USA and it has just arrived.
I was using a rental and i have not used the machine for a while. As the doctor will not tell me what pressure the rental is set at, i saw a video on youtube about the Remstar M Series (the machine i rented) and it said when you switch the machine on it would show what pressure it was set at. i did this and it said 4.
I wrote in on one of the youtube pages and i was told that 4 could not be right. The respondant told me to come on to this forum and someone might be able to help me.
I do hope so cause i do not have my appointment until end of August and i need to use my machine.

I look forward to help.
Thanks

Yup it could be set at 4..that is the lowest setti ng there is...just like regular breathing without a machine. If you want to get into the clinical menu on the M series......
Unplug the little plug at the back of the machine
At the same time that you plug it back in press both arrow buttons on the display at the same time as you plug it back in.
You will here a beep, beep...wait a second and when the setup menu (shows up in the display) just arrow up or down to see what its set at....if you want to c hange anything just + or - until you get what you want. If you want to keep the cha nged settings, when you are done just push the on button and it will be saved.
Good luck
Nan
Edited to mention.. pressure of 4 COULD just be the ramp up if its set to that, I don't use mine so forgot to mention it. The ramp would be set at a low pressure for a certain amount of minutes and then bump up into whatever pressure it was set at.
Use the procedure I swrote above and the setup menu will tell you if that is the case.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

In APAP mode it could be 4 cm minimum to 20 cm maximum as that is the usual default.
CPAP mode might be 4 cm.

Most people will need more pressure than 4 cm to treat apneas as well as be comfortable breathing as not much air is moving at 4 c.

The machine you just bought..PR System One Auto AFlex
How to get to clinical setup http://www.apneaboard.com/PR-System-One ... -Setup.htm

You will also want the clinical manual. Send me a private message with your regular email address an I can send it to you in pdf format as attachment. We cannot do attachments with the forum email system.

You have software options, see here for choices. Using the software will enable you to see if therapy is optimal.

You need to find the clinical manual for the RENTAL machine as well. Then you will be able to check the settings. It could either be an APAP that is set from 4 to ???, OR the ramp may be set to start at 4 and gradually increase to your therapuetic pressure. The best way to find out is to get the clinical manual and check it.

Call your doctor and ask what your setting should be. 4 seems a little low....

It is quite possible that the 4 represents the starting RAMP pressure if you use the ramp. It's also possible that you do indeed only require minimum pressure. A few of us don't need much pressure to keep the airways open, although it is a bit unusual. I'd suggest that you ask here about getting the instructions for getting into the clinical menu on your machine and use those instructions to double check the actual settings. You can do that without changing anything through the clinical menu and nobody---including the proverbial CPAP police---will be able to tell that you took a look at things through the clinical menu.

[rant ON]For the life of me I cannot see why the docs, dme's and manufacturers WANT to keep our prescribed pressure settings secret from us. It's rather like telling us to take a serious, daily medicine but keeping the dosage secret from us. And yet, we see post after post from folks like this OP who do not know their prescribed pressure level---and cannot get anybody on their so-called "medical team" to let them in on what the hell the settings on their machine are supposed to be.[rant OFF]
