Pressure sores on nose bridge

Post by islandboy5150 » Mon Jul 04, 2011 12:54 pm

Hi everybody, happy 4th to you. Over the last few weeks I thought I was making a little pimple on the bridge of my nose. It started with redness and was sore, right where my mask sits on the bridge of my nose. Then a little blister appeared, and it drained, and I thought to myself it should heal up now. Well it didn't. It got worse, fast. Now its a giant crater on the bridge of my nose and I cant keep wearing my quattro. I tried using my old opus gear, but no joy. I quickly learned why I couldn't tolerate it, as I can't keep my mouth from leaking. I can't tape because of my big moochstache, unless I shave it off. I've had it since I was 13 and I don't want to have to explain why I shaved it off. Any ideas on how to tape and keep my moosestache?

Plus, just want to give all who wear the quattro or similar, if you think you might have the beginnings of a pressure sore, stop using the mask immediately. Apparently, the whole cause of this thing is due to tiny blood vessels being crushed and cutting off blood flow to the area, causing the flesh to die off. I didn't realize it until too late.

Polygrip strips to seal lips while nose heals. It works. I did it. Tastes nasty but tolerable.

Avi123,

How do you keep those from leaking where the pad ends on the cheek? It seems as though air would pour through that ridge.

Thanks on the ploy grip solution, I'll give it a shot tonight. The nose bridge protector I should have started wearing weeks, if not months ago. I can't wear it right now, but will when this heals up sufficiently then maybe I can start wearing my quattro again. Right now and for the foreseeable future, I can't have anything touch the bridge of my nose at all. The dead tissue had to be cleaned away, and what's left has to heal up first. Then, if that nose bridge protector can keep enough pressure off of my skin, then I'll be ok to wear my quattro again. But, im afraid it wont actually keep pressure off, just soften the feel of it. Its the pressure thats the culprit, reducing blood flow to the tissue. Until then, anything on the nose is totally out of the question. Doc says it could lead to surgical removal of my nose if this doesn't take a turn for the better, and should it get infected. Scared me bad. Don't want that.
