Is anybody usiing the Breeze Dreamseal interface?

Post by Guest » Sun Jan 15, 2006 9:52 am

I currently use the Breeze nasal pillows as my preferred interface. I find it to be quite good for me, however I would also like to get an alternative to it and was thinking about the Breeze Dreamseal. I would be very interested in what others think about it. I have not seen any discussion about the Dreamseal. Does it seal well, stay in place, comfortable, etc.? I am art relatively high pressure-- 17/13. Are there any other high pressure people out there who use the Dreamseal? Would you recommend it as a backup interface? Thank you for any insight you might be able to lend.

Hi Anne,

I like the Breeze with nasal pillows very much; however, I found the Breeze with "DreamSeal" to be very leaky.

Hi Anne

I did just what you are thinking of doing, I have the breeze and like the idea of the dreamseal and so, because it is cheap I got one! My pressures however are lower being about 9.6.

Firstly, compared to the breeze it is a weighty unit, heavy and cumbersome. Then, to stop it leaking I had to lean my head into the pillow - I got a good seal that way, but when I moved it leaked! As for lying on my back - there was no chance unless I wanted to really squash it into my face. But after the breeze the last think you want to do is have a nasal mask squashed around your nose! The whole point of the breeze is the freedom and lack of contact it gives.

Sorry to put a downer of the dreamseal, but from my experience it can be made to work for a while ... but it isn't a long term answer. For me nothing come close to the breeze.

RG and sir_cumference-

Thank you both for your responses. They made for an easy decision. No Dearmseal in my future!

Sir Cumference,
Are you talking about the above Dream Fit or the below Dream Seal that goes on the Breeze headgear? I think this guest is talking about the Dream Seal that is substituted on the Breeze for the nasal pillows. Maybe I'm wrong.

Lori

Thank you so much for pointing out my mistake!! It is the dreamfit I tried and was talking about, not the dreamseal!!! Sorry for misleading you - I have not tried the breeze with the dreamseal attachment - but - as the deamfit uses the dreamseal interface, I can imagine that what I said is probably still applicable.

Hi Sleepless-

Thanks for pointing out the Dream Fit. I was unaware of that version and was thinking only of the DreamSeal. It looks to me that the Dream Fit would also be problematic.

Again-- thanks for everyone's input. I love this site!!

Good pics, Lori!

For years Puritan Bennett has offered the Breeze two ways -- with nasal pillows or with the "Dreamseal" nasal mask. Both the pillows and the small Dreamseal nasal mask use the traditional "Breeze" headgear with the rigid plastic spine that goes over the top of the head ending in a plastic pad at back of the head. The Breeze with nasal pillows works well. The Breeze with DreamSeal does not (imho.)

When Puritan Bennett created a very good new mask last year (DreamFit) they brought on confusion by giving it a name so similar to their old, not-so-good nasal interface (Dreamseal.) Why PB would even want to associate the two...well, go figure!

Their new "DreamFit" does not use the traditional Breeze headgear. What makes the DreamFit better than most other regular nasal masks, (except for ResMed's masks) is that the DreamFit has a flexible silicone section where the outer plastic shell of the mask attaches to the rigid clear plastic tube that goes up the front of the new interface. You can't really see it in the picture because it's not filled with air, but the flexibility of that attachment makes the nasal mask portion of the DreamFit give, side-to-side and up/down when it's against a head pillow. Much less apt to leak than their old Dreamseal nasal mask option for the Breeze.

PB calls that flexibility design in the DreamFit a "bellows", but it's not a bellows in the sense that ResMed's Activa has a cushion that truly acts as a bellows. PB's "bellows" in the DreamFit might better be described as a flexible attachment. But an Activa-style bellows, it isn't.

Just my opinion, but having used all three, I'd rate them this way:

Breeze with nasal pillows - Very good (unless you like to sleep on your back.)

Breeze with Dreamseal nasal mask - Poor.

DreamFit nasal mask - Very good.

It's interesting to see how different we all are. I rate the breeze great even if you need to lie on your back, whereas the dreamfit is poor because it only works when I lie with it pressed into the pillow and is hopeless when I lie on my back. And, it feels so cumbersome after the breeze with nasal pillows. I have not tried the breeze with dreamseal - once again my apologies for any misleading!

Between Lori's pictures, and Rested Gal's detailed explanation, now I finally understand what the differnce is between the two, and how the DreamFit er, seals... enough to give you... fits, this PB marketing idea...

Thanks to both of you!

O.
