German machines, what do you think?

Post by CatherineF » Sun Jul 03, 2011 3:28 am

In my country I have best access to machines produced in Germany.

http://www.hoffrichter-gmbh.de/112.html?&L=1

Does anyone have any experience with those devices? I think that they can't be worst than others... And only Wienmann's machine has got software.

Looking at the sites for both machines, one thing strikes me is that they come with battery packs that allow for operation of 7-8 hours without mains current. The Weinmann comes with an internal battery that lasts for 3 hours, enough to get through many short power outages without impacting the patient. The Hoffrichter does have software but it looks like it would be difficult to get a copy as it is labeled for sleep laboratories only.

One very nice feature of the Hoffrichter machine is the optional very large intake filter that attaches to the back of the machine. The Hoffrichter masks have a pressure line port on the mask that allows the machine to measure the pressure at the mask directly. This probably limits the choice of masks somewhat. I think some ?? of the ResMed masks are built this way.

This one would be more compatible with what you're using:

Is it the company that still recruits volunteers, since 2009, to prove its new technology?

Built-in battery options are always a nice touch. Rather than pay outrageous prices for a wire adapter called special.

fwiw - I would not buy a machine I couldn't get software for. It is like walking in the dark.

I have always regarded Weinmann as producing what look like outstanding machines, possibly the best in Europe. They might even give the best other brands a 'run for their money'.

They have done some very clever things with their machines & if they weren't so expensive, would have bought one years ago. One machine that seemed to be the most advanced in the world was the SOMMNOVent CR - it uses some very unique ways of addressing a variety of SDB conditions.

http://www.weinmann.de/en/homecare/slee ... novent_cr/

QUOTE:
>>
Effect and benefit for patient

SOMNOvent CR has three pressure levels, IPAP (inspiratory pressure), EPAP (expiratory pressure) and EEPAP (end-expiratory pressure). In conjunction with detected events, the pressure levels are automatically adjusted to the current needs of the patient.

EEPAP is the pressure required to eliminate obstructions.
At declining respiratory minute volume, SOMNOvent CR supports the patient’s breathing by means of a continuous increase in the IPAP/EPAP difference.
At increasing respiratory minute volume, the IPAP/EPAP difference is reduced to zero (CPAP) to quiet the patient’s breathing.
In the event of apnea, SOMNOvent CR automatically ventilates at a patient-specific or fixed backup frequency.

Fast relief

While Anti-Cyclic Modulated Ventilation (ACMV) smoothes out respiratory fluctuations, pathophysiological breathing is modulated into physiological breathing. In the process hyperventilation is suppressed. Both central and obstructive breathing patterns are recorded and efficiently regulated.

Because the regulation is gentle, it guarantees the patient a night of sound sleep. The intelligent algorithm continuously adapts to the patient throughout the night, resulting in optimum therapy.
<<

Whilst the above link mentions that this machine is for heart condition patients, it is in fact an ASV type machine and like most current ASV machines can address more than just Cheynes-Stokes respiration. The tri-level pressure means (AFAIK) that the machine adjusts eepap for OSA & DPAP & EPAP to address Centrals and irregular/periodic breathing (such as Cheynes-Stokes Respiration).

I still would love to try one but was quoted $9,000 to get it shipped.
