It is curious why it won't work for you, but I guess that's why we have different masks. Lucky you have spares.

Another difference I notced is that you are on BiPAP. I suspect it makes no difference, but I'm curious whether other BIPAP users have the same problems with getting effective therapy on the FX as you do?

Well, I just found something of interest in the Swift FX user's manual.

This mask is not compatible for use with ResMed AutoSet CS™ 2 and VPAP™ Adapt SV devices.

It doesn't say why. And it doesn't mention other ASV devices, but my machine is a Bipap ASV.

This started off interesting, but now it is getting INTERESTING...

I wonder what the differences are that change the recommendation for use with different machines.

Funny thing. I was thinking the same thing. Called my DME's RT today and asked him why the mask he'd recommended for me wasn't recommended for my machine, and he didn't know. Said he's going to research it, though.

Well that was a shot in the dark that hit.

I wonder if there are other board members who are using the Fx with Bipap/Vpap and don't know about this?

Not that it effects me, but if you find out why Kiralynx, I'd be interested to know why the Fx is different.

Maybe when you do it might be worth a separate post to help warn others.

Well, I just spoke with the RT at the DME (Apria), and he'd forgotten to check with Respironics. Guess that long holiday weekend did something. He says he's going to call them right now and get back to me.

I'll be happy to post a note with the information from the FX user's guide if it might help. Resmed said something about the Swift FX somehow interfered with "the learning circuit" on their Adapt SV machines, but I didn't get the details. (I wasn't talking directly to one of their RTs, but to a customer service person so something might have gotten lost in the translation.

Amazing! The RT got right back to me... even while I was typing this! Said he talked with Respironics, and they said that ANY of their masks are compatible with the Bipap ASV. The only time they specifically recommend a full face mask is if mouth breathing is uncontrolled, as that can really do in the algorithm for the ASV. They could not, however, offer an opinion on why the Resmed Swift FX might not be suitable for a Resmed machine, and likewise said they could not offer an opinion on whether a Resmed mask would be suitable with a Respironics Bipap ASV.

When I researched this recently, I came to the conclusion that this restriction applied to the S8 version of VPAP Adapt, but was removed when ResMed introduced the S9 series. I couldn't find any such restriction on the Swift FX with regard to the S9 VPAP Adapt, and in fact my MD specifically specified this mask for me on the same Rx as the one for my S9.

As it happens, the DME recommended the Swift FX for me. It doesn't work well for me, but I know that it's a very popular mask, and that many people like it.

I did re-test with the FX, as I had said I would in the thread, and ended up with the hip pain. So I'm sticking with my Headrest.
