Ok. is this a loaner machine? Did you have a chance to check the hours if use on it?

I don't think it's a loaner, the VA bought the machine and there were zero hours on it. I believe the DME said it's mine to keep until they decide to replace it down the road. I'll find out more when I actually get a chance to talk with the VA doc in August.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Believe it or not the doc is not likely to know much about the equipment. The DME or person who issued the machine is the person to ask. Which VA?

I go to the Denver VA hospital. However, I'm not sure what you're getting at?

Before I did my second titration, the Doc had recommended a BiPAP since I didn't tolerate the CPAP well and had other SBD's/ CSA's going on. The tech who did both my sleep studies said he had authority to change the order if he could justify it to the doctors, and so he did change it and titrated me on this machine. His explanation is it was a newer machine that was better equipped to deal with more complex sleep disorders. So, this is what the tech recommended, this is what I was titrated on, this is what the VA ultimately approved, and this is exactly what I expected to get. I'm quite happy with it so far.

So I'm curious where all your questions are leading?
