They do. It's your own fault for not taking any.

I use nothing but distilled water. With my old machine, I didn't empty it daily and the inside of my humidifier got caked with mineral deposits. With this new one, I empty in the AM and refill at bedtime.

IF you had any buildup at all it was NOT distilled water you were using. I would stop buying that brand.

Actually, it has happened with 2 generic brands I have used, one from Walmart and one from Walgreens. Just as easy to empty and refill daily.

I'm sure it is. Just sayin' IF it was distilled there would be no buildup.

I've evaporated quite a few gallons of Walmart distilled water and never seen any residue. I do top up my tank, and dishwash the tank every two weeks or so.

Deleted post.

You seem to be ignorant of basic science, LinkC. Don't be offended. None of us knows everything.

Care to elaborate?

And feel free to register/log-in. Unless you NEED to hide, of course.

(So why did you delete the first post?)

I don't know whether I'm wasting my time with this, but here goes. Some tap water contains flouride, a mineral; all municipal tap water contains chlorine, a gas.

You are not drinking anything; you are not inhaling steam.. If you use tap water in your xpap, you are inhaling water vapor, which contains no minerals. (Theoretically, if there is turbulent airflow over the surface of the water, it might create an aerosol of water droplets, which might contain minerals.) The dissolved chlorine gas, will come out of the water, and if the water is freshly out of the tap, you will inhale that. If the water stands for a few hours after leaving the tap, the chlorine will be gone.

The purpose of the chlorine is to kill all microorganisms; municipal tap water, is for practical purposes, sterile. Only if it's injected is a higher degree of sterility required. Surgeons scrub their hands with soap and tap water. Many non-US hospitals irrigate wounds with tap water.

The purpose of using distilled in your tank is to prevent mineral buildup; people come to different conclusions as to whether it's worth the expense and trouble.

Apparently not, given the utterly silly responses of Vader and GumbyCantThink.

Distilled water is produced by heating normally reticulated water (aka tap water) until it becomes steam, and then condensing the vapour. By Vader's wierd-science reasoning, that steam would still contain any fluorides and chlorides present in the source water, so the condenstate would be just as dangerous to him as the reticulated water he scare-mongers about

Cheers,

Bill

I don’t think it’s ever a waste of time when someone states their opinion in a civil manner, as you did ( and as I have in this discussion) That's what this forum is for.
I think that when you get a couple guys displaying arrogant and condescending behavior,(not to mention *childish*) they add NOTHING to the dialogue, and THAT is a waste of time, for most people who would like to form their own opinion based on what they may learn in the process of a civil discussion.

And you majored in high school debating?

I guess gases can't be inhaled down under.

Edit:I have to agree Vader. Some have nothing of value to add; only to stir the pot.
