CPAP dreams

Post by archangle » Wed Jun 08, 2011 12:12 pm

I've been experimenting with seeing if I can train myself to not mouth breathe without a chin strap. Some people have reported some success, so I thought I'd try it. When I'm still awake after putting the CPAP on, I make efforts to hold my mouth, lips, and tongue in the correct position.

I woke up after several hours and seemed to be doing OK, so I took a bathroom break, threw the dog out for a few minutes and went back to bed.

I suspect I was motorboating a little. i.e. Put your lips together, blow out through them making a putputput sound.

The funny thing was that I was dreaming that I was with some other people and every so often I would start motorboating at inappropriate times. While eating, while, talking, etc. In my dreams I was embarrassed by the motorboating and tried to stop, sometimes with success, sometimes without.

I hope this means that my subconscious is working on stopping mouth breathing. Maybe it's just a dream.

I didn't feel all dried out when I woke up, so maybe it's working.

Do any of you have "CPAP artifacts" in your dreams? I guess various suffocation dreams are not uncommon. I've had a few of those myself when my CPAP machine was set wrong.
