Average age?
I think I've been suffering from sleep apnea for more than 10 years. I'm 33 now. Wondering what they average age is for people who start on CPAP? No need to answer if you feel it's too personal

Instant results! I'm 30, by the way, so you're not the only "young" one here.

Re: Average age?
People have posted on this and other sites about children as young as 2 starting on cpap.
Re: Average age?
I'm 33, but probably have had apnea for years... Had a first "semi diagnostic" when I was 19, chose to ignore it.

Re: Average age?
I'm sure I've had OSA most, if not all, of my life. I didn't get diagnosed untl age 52. I envy those who get diagnosed at a young age.

Re: Average age?
I think you're going to see younger and younger people getting diagnosed and on CPAP, only because the technology is relatively new and only recently reached a point where it's less costly, more common and more advanced. Now instead of being blown off and told to raise the head of the bed, young people who complain of waking up gasping for breath will get better treatment (hopefully!)

I was going to be incensed, then realized you were not saying "weight" was the only cause of OSA. It's one, but not the only one. During my teen years, when I almost certainly had undiagnosed sleep apnea, I was UNDER weight - by a lot. I weighed about 130 to 140 pounds, but should have been about 155 pounds. Yet, I almost certainly had mild sleep apnea as early as 13 or 14. Yes, a variety of physical attributes (not just weight) contribute to OSA.old dude wrote:I think age is irrelevent . I think it may have been there for a few years but I did not clue in till I was 54. Before that, coffee was enough. Then very suddenly, it got so bad, I realized something was wrong.

Re: Average age?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. You'd be hard pressed to find the physical attributes that are affecting my OSA. I'm not overweight. Don't snore. Don't have a thick neck. Airway is not narrow. Full check by the ENT revealed absolutely no physical explanation. Sleep doctor admitted that she could not give me any reason at all why I developed OSA.I think age is irrelevent . Physical attributes affect OSA.
