Wow, thats a bad sunburn!!

Post by Isaacrn » Mon Jun 06, 2011 5:17 pm

I used the 15 ComfortGel Nasal CPAP Mask for two days. Day one was no real issue, but day two was something different. I didnt feel that I over tightened anything, but when I went to work, everyone commented on my sunburn. Well i have a beautiful rectangular shaped red mark across my forehead and on the bridge of my nose from the mask. Obviously the mark on my forehead is pretty big. I really didnt think I overtightened it.

Has this happened to anyone else? I went back to my nasal pillow to hopefully decrease this redness on my forehead, and woke up a bit sore on the nares again. Am i just too sensitive of a person . I wanna get some opinions on this. Maybe an allergic reaction? It surely didnt bother me the first night. Im at a loss, as I was enjoying the nasal mask over the pillow, but cant live life with red marks all over my face.

That barrel cozy for the nasal pillows probably should be moved to the top of your "to get" list.

In the meantime Lansinoh breast nipple cream. Found in baby section at Walmart. It is thick and will protect the tender nares.

I was really prefering the Mask over the Pillow too. My forehead is steel BEET RED. It really hurts too. im hesitant about wearing a mask that will cause all these discolorations. the bridge of my nose is rather red as well. im thinking about possibly asking to try the 35 Mirage SoftGel Nasal CPAP.

The only issue i have with the pillow is around the nare. Im not really sore anywhere else. Would the cozy help that much?

Disassemble and wash the flap, cushion, and headrest really well. Maybe there's something on it that you're having a reaction to. I'd empty everything else from the dishwasher and run it through several of the hottest, strongest cycles the dishwasher will do.

I've washed my own comfortgels in the dishwasher for years.

Wash your face and hands really well before masking, too. Maybe there's something in your environment that irritates your skin when the mask presses it against your skin overnight.

You may need to not use that particular mask for a few days until your skin heals. Maybe you could put a piece of cloth between the forehead rest and your skin for now.

If it does not help or if you end up not wanting to use the Swift FX or you just don't like the cozy....I will buy it from you.
So you lose no money.
I was going to get a spare anyway. I can wash it. Wouldn't bother me in the least.

Also loosen the top strap on the Swift FX one notch. At most any discomfort should only be minor tenderness unless you are having some sort of skin reaction to the materials.

Take some tissue paper and cut it to a little bigger then the part that touches your forehead. Put the tissue between you and the mask. You may have to bend over to get it to stay put when you put it on. I had the same with the quatro mask where it touch the sides of my nose /under my eyes. Yes it felt like a sun burn!

Ive had that....now I use mask liners on all my masks. Take a look at padacheek.com in the meantime take an old well washed tshirt, cut out the imprint of your mask but make it 3/4 inch bigger all round, cut a hole for you nose. Use this liner between your face and the mask.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.
