Whistling Mask

Post by LoveBucket » Wed May 25, 2011 4:48 am

I'm having problems with my Mirage Swift II nasal mask. Being autumn (in Australia), I can no longer sleep with the fan which usually blocks out a lot of noise from the mask. So in the quiet of the night, the whistling on exhale from what I think is the mask (but sometimes it seems like the machine - S8 Autoscore II) is driving me crazy.

Anyone have the same problem? I would appreciate any help you can give me.

My mask makes sounds too. It sounds like a screaming female, though it's real faint. I've gotten used to it, but at night, when I hear it, I often wonder what I've done... it keeps me honest. I'd suggest turning your fan back on, but point it against the wall.

I suspect I'm gonna hear it now!

While I don't use this type of mask I do on occasion hear a little whistle on exhale and this is usually resolved by repositioning the pillows that I use. Wouldn't hurt to try and see if it helps or not.

I sometimes get some whistling from my mask too. The best thing to do seems to be to try repositioning the pillows. That usually works for me.

I used the Swift II for a while and would get whistling when the pillows were not properly seated or had moved as I tossed and turned. Usually a quick wiggle of the mask would reseal but sometimes I would have to pull the pillows away from my nose and set them back straight to get a good seal.

My new machine makes a whining noise when I exhale now. I cant seem to find a solution to that problem, so I just ignore it as much as I can now.

My new Swift FX is a lot less prone to whistling that the Swift II, quieter exhaust noise level also. I would recommend the upgrade if you can.

Good luck,
Dennis

My mask does the whistling sound also on exhale, will be watching this thread to see what could be causing this! For mine i "think" it's comming from the little exhalation holes in the mask and i'm thinking maybe it's to do with my pressure being so high at 18 and might just hve to be something I get used to.

I had the same issue with my Swift Nasal Pillows. I started with the XS pillows and moved up to the Small. The sleep tech I was working with said that since the pillows were so small, it would make that whistling sound. He asked me if I had adjusted the pillows during the night and I had, but I was still having the issue. The small pillows do not seem to make that sound near as much.

Another thing that helps is if when this wakes me up, I blow my nose. Sometimes, that seems to help.

Sometimes I am unsure whether the whistle is coming from my mask or my nose.

Make sure your nose is 'whistle' clean before seating your pillows at night for the best seal and maybe less whistling : )

I have been having this problem for a while. I found if you turn down the humidifer it can help.
Other times just put your fingers over the valve that expells air for a second and it will stop for a while.

Yeah, but if you hold your finger over the exhalation valve too long you will stop too LOL : ) OK, I better quit posting. I'm getting that slumber party hit each other with pillows kind of feeling.

With my Opus360 mask the vent holes will whistle very softly if I exhale just right at certain pressures. I have found if I control my exhale I can play a tune with it. Such fun when slowing waking up peacefully, relaxed and feeling refreshed, not like before cpap when I would feel drugged with a headache
