AI and CI

Post by Sheriff Buford » Mon May 23, 2011 7:57 am

Can someone tell me what the AI (apnea index) and CI (central index) is? I tried to call Resmed, but they bounced me all over the place. I noticed a few days back that my AHI was 0 (a first for me!! ), but my AI was a .1 and my CI was a .1. This is very confusing for this feller!!

Thanks,

Sheriff

AI Apnea Index. They take the overall number of Apnea events and divide it by the number of hours the machine was in use. So hourly average of Apnea events.

CI Central Index same thing but only centrals. This figure may be included in the AI.

AHI can be 0 even with minute indexes in the above because of numerical rounding off (up or down). This would be the AI index (obstructives and hyponeas) and Central Index but what they do is add all Obstructives, Hyponeas, and centrals then divide by number of hours the machine was used. Final number is so small it gets rounded down to zero.
