Has anybody got the newer generic readers to work? Should be a simple software solution either to ResScan or to the reader, but I don't know how to do it.
I loaded ResScan 3.14 onto my windows 7 computer. The only problem with the installation was that it couldn't install the drivers. Apparently, the installer isn't compatable with windows 7. After installation, I attached my generic reader and it was recognized by windows which loaded the CCID drivers. From all the previous posts, I new that wasn't right so I got the latest drivers from ACS.com. They have two, both are 1.1.6.1 from 2009. One has CCID in the name and the other doesn't. Either can be installed and both are visible in the Windows Device Manager, but ResScan simply does not see the reader with either driver installed. Selecting "download" inside of ResScan yields "No device attached". Windows does see the reader and the reader acknowledges a card with the slow blinking light going to solid when the card is inserted properly (using a guide).
From reading the posts, I know the older readers work and I think the only difference is a firmware update to the newer ones to accommodate the more prevalent CCID standard over PC/SC, so I think there should be a simple work around. Anybody know it?
Thanks,
Jay

Not one that anyone has been able to discover, as far as I'm aware.Jay Aitchsee wrote:so I think there should be a simple work around.
An ACS reader with PC/SC support in its firmware definitely does work with Windows 7 x86 and x64.
Cheers,
Bill

Bill, what does your windows 7 machine call the ACR38 when it is installed - looking under Start/Devices and Printers? Mine is labled "CCID USB Reader" even though I am using what I believe to be PC/SC driver. By the way, I've used the ACS utility and it finds the ACR 38 successfully. My guess is this reader is calling itself something slightly different than ResScan is looking for so it doesn't find it.
Thanks,
Jay

There are already some lengthy previous threads on CPAPtalk discussing, in detail, the topic of attempting to use the ACR38 CCID reader with ResScan and as far as I am aware the situation has not changed... rather than rehash those conversations yet again, I suggest that to do a search for threads on ACR38 etc.
Cheers,
Bill

Mine wouldn't work plugged into a USB hub. Plugged it directly into computer USB port and it works.
