Crazy idea or not?

Post by newyorknative » Sun May 15, 2011 12:10 pm

I was thinking of using the water produced by my dehumidifier for my cpap machine. Isn't it distilled water? Safe?

Yes, It IS "distilled".

Safe? Would you drink it? It's been in a pan on the floor for a considerable time.... Your call.

The bottom of the dehumidifier is a prime spot for growing mold--some of which is very harmful.
You are kidding; right?

Crazy Idea......Distilled water is under $1 gallon...often .69 or .79. Use fresh water.

Buy a water distiller. I found one at sears 15 years ago. Less than 100 dollars.

Look at the dust that collects in your house behind the furniture or other places you don't clean. All that crud is in the air. Or look at the filter for a central air conditioner or heater. A dehumidifier collects this crud on the condenser where the water forms. It also collects dust a lot quicker than other places in the house because there's a fan blowing and a lot of air goes through the dehumdifier.

This crud has dead skin cells, bacteria, dirt, animal hair and dander, pollen, etc. in it. It sits in a damp condition inviting bacteria to grow in it. Your "distilled" water filters through this before it falls into the collection bucket.

It's a really bad idea to use dehumidifier water for medical purposes. It's like collecting the dust behind the refrigerator and pouring it into your distilled water.

In another forum I remember someone boasting that they do in fact drink this distilled water. I can only say you must be nucking futs, but have at it. Another for the gene pool.

Yeah, you sure did! Sometimes this crowd tells it like it is, straight as an arrow, just as sharp, and right on target! But the resulting wound will heal quickly!

So you have a machine to take the water out of the air you breathe and you have a machine to put water into the air you breathe?

Something is *&^%ing wrong with this concept.
