Dark Circles...watched them grow...
Good morning all,
I have been posting here lately as a newbie (getting my (x)PAP in a couple days) but thought I would start a new topic on this one for the heck of it...
I have been dealing with the Apnea (the best I can tell) for about 18 mo to 2 years. Within the last 6 months I LITERALLY watched the dark circles under my eyes grow. They were ending just below my pupil about 4 months ago and are now just to the outside of my iris (when I look straight into the mirror).
Can anyone give me some hope (positive posts requested - pretty please?) that the xPAP can help with those? Is it possible they will at least get less prominent on my face as time goes on using my device? No one in my family on either side has them so, although I personally could be predisposed to them, at least genetically I am not likely to have them. I know there could be lots of other variables but again, I am looking for a positive reinforcement on CPAP sleep helping.
One reason I am having a positive attitude and hope about it is because I had my titration two days ago and I did notice the "lack-of-sleep" lines/wrinkles that extend past my dark circles were gone till the evening. So I saw an immediate improvement even with as little sleep as I got with my titration but just hoping for some success stories from others to help keep my positive outlook going...
Thanks a bunch,
Cc

Oh, yeah.... those circles will go away quickly! I had deep, blue-gray circles under my eyes from many, many years of sleep deprivation. They diminished very fast once I started therapy. Just getting enough O2 24/7 will help that tissue heal, and getting enough 'beauty' sleep will take care of the rest!
So... if that doesn't motivate you to make this work......
Best of luck!!

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
Re: Dark Circles...watched them grow...
In my experience, I had really bad dark circles around my eyes. I really hated it.
I don't remember exactly how long it took, but shortly after beginning cpap therapy, the dark circles disappeared. A friend who hadn't seen me in a while asked if I had cosmetic surgery!

Now I wish I'd looked in the mirror more.
At 170+ pounds and 4'11", I just couldn't face the dang thing.
Now that I'm down to under 140, I spend nearly as much time there as a teenager--but with no zits!

With in a week I was getting comments on how much "healthier" I looked. The bags under the eyes are puffier in the morning but they don't look bruised anymore. The skin on my feet stopped cracking too.

Vader, you're not exactly a good poster boy for CPAP.Vader wrote:In my experience, I had really bad dark circles around my eyes. I really hated it.

Wow!, you're absolutely right! I hadn't realized this before, but when you compare "before & after", there's no denying the difference. Maybe I need that cosmetic surgery after all, and I should probably raise my pressure a bit.archangle wrote: Vader, you're not exactly a good poster boy for CPAP.
Do these machines go up to maybe 50 cm of pressure?

See where ignoring your OSA brings you? If you had started using that machine earlier maybe you wouldn't have been so cranky and turned to the dark side!Wow!, you're absolutely right!
