I just recieved my ultimate chinstrap and tried it on. You have got to be kidding me. This thing is made for a much bigger person. From the beginning of my chin where it meets my neck to the bottom of my nose is 3.5 inches. The strap is 5.5 inches deep at this point. It comes up to the middle of my eyes. Plus it wraps around the neck, and maybe because it is so big, it feels like it is choking me. If I can figure out how to cinch up two inches at the end of my chin, I might try to sleep with it. TAlso, the overhead strap has nothing to anchor it. One nudge and it either comes forward over the eyes or backwards.

There is no such thing as one size fits all!!!!

Ugh, this is what I was afraid of! Hopefully there's a way to take up some material in there...

If you don't think cutting/sewing it would help, just send it back for a refund. Didn't the guy stress that you'd get a full refund if you weren't happy with it?
Bummer. But its good to know its so huge. Sorry its not working out for you.

I'm still waiting for Russell's Ultimate Chin strap to arrive.
It should be here today.

They called to say they were having a problem with the web site not asking if you wanted it for apnea or snoring, so they didn't know which one to send out. They were having to call the people who had ordered and ask them.
This is why it has taken so long to get it....(I guess)

I'll try it tonight if it comes today.

If it doesn't work as a chinstrap, perhaps it can be used for a Mummy costume for Halloween...

I know
I'm taking a big chance here that this "thing" will work.

SleepingUgle I'm like you with so much crap on my head and body at night, what's one more thing.

It didn't come today...boy are they slow with mailing out their orders.

I was sorry to hear that it didn't work for RestedGal. But, I don't THINK I blow out as much at night..LOL
I ALMOST keep my mouth shut all night. I think???

I tried mine last night. I had to wait for the weekend because it didn't look promising and I can't afford to lose more sleep on a week night.

I had to cinch up 2 inches of fabric right at the chin line because it is way too big for me. If I kept it I would have to stitch it to hold it like that. The other problems that I had with it were

1. The overhead strap would not stay in place. It slid forward even though I tried to anchor it to my headgear.

2. I don't have much room between the top of my lip and the bottom of my nose. The chinstrap kept pushing up against the madk causing it to dislodge and cause leaks.

3. I could not tolerate having that big heavy strap wrapped around the back of my neck. It was very restrictive and uncomfortable.

After an hour I wondered why I was suffering through and just took it off, taped up my mouth and put on my old chinstrap.

I gave it a shot and it was miserable. I did write to the inventor, yesterday, and asked him if he was interested in working with me to create a smaller sized strap for those of us with smaller features. I'll let you know if I hear back from him on that. I don't think the design will ever work for me, but I can see where it might work for people who aren't bothered by things like straps around the neck.

Sorry OutaSync,
Its really disappointing to have it so built up, and then to have it not work. Its a good idea that he tries to build a smaller one.

Maybe mine works so well since I am so large? I am 6'2" and 240 pounds. I have a different sensation where it hits my nasal mask as well at my nose ( I use the Swift FX) but it seals perfectly still for me. I also just got a new Mirage SoftGel nasal mask. It also works without ANY problems for me but I much prefer the Swift FX. I now have over 2 weeks with good sleep with this current setup with no failures. Since I also suffer severe insomnia for over 45 years and yet have slept so well using this setup with my APAP, it has been a literal miracle for me. And of the most unlikely since this chin strap looked SO brutal to me when I first saw it! I sure hope most have good luck with it? It honestly has changed MY life and I now can't imagine my life without it.

Mine came in the mail this morning and I intend to start using one of them tonight.

This evening, I'll pull my card and do a print-out of my AHI numbers for the past week....and then compare my AHI experience for the next week using the strap system.

If my AHI numbers are about the same (average is under 1.0) or if I see an improvement, I'll chunk the 2" 3M #2080-EL Tape and use only the strap. One way or the other, I'll report back.

I didn't think about the ultimate chin strap being too large! I had my wife try it on, and it just swallowed her!! There is no way she could wear it. I hope the inventor will work at designing a smaller model. My top strap tends to migrate forward, but I've found that using bobby pins solved this problem. All the hoses, masks, chin straps, bobby pins . . . life is interesting!!

Will see tonight.

After reading all these comments re: size problems I got to wondering how aware Russ is of these concerns, so I emailed the link for this thread to him. Here is his answer:
Thank you for your comments. I am not an active member on the cpaptalk forum but do understand that there is some sizing concerns. This concern is something that we are actively working on to provide a solution for those people that require a smaller chinstrap. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to send me the link and give me a heads up. As soon as we have a solution, I will let you know. Please let me know if you have any additional questions and/or feedback.

Thanks again,
Russ
Keep your fingers crossed for a good solution soon.
