You must have gotten suckered into responding to a spam post since the original post is gone! Easy to do. I've gotten suckered in myself a time or two. Teaches one take a real close look at the first post of a "newbie" to see if it's real, or spam.

This was what the OP said

It is still available for viewing if someone posts a reply (sometimes anyway) I can see it now. I didn't remove it though but I would have if I had seen it. Common wording seen for these type of posts especially if the OP didn't register.
Google "Ferio Larco" and you will see tons of exact same message on more forums than I can count.

So what you're saying is on the reply page the thread that is shown below the reply box will show the OP even if it's been removed from the main thread display. That is if the thread is still all on one page, right? Interesting. I hadn't ever noticed that before.

I see it now also. Funny stuff sometimes, this forum software it is!

Yes, sometimes we can see deleted posts but sometimes we can't. I don't know the triggers. They don't always show up though. They can be gone on the first page too. Most of the time someone catches this stuff before anyone posts a reply.
Perhaps the reply was being done at the same time as the delete function was being done. It does take a few moments for the spam delete to go through. Longer than usual response time. First few times I did it I thought things had locked up.
Once I see a response, I just leave it alone. It will quickly move off the main page if we quit talking about it.
But then again it is good education for newbies to see.

Okay, then maybe you can answer two questions I need to ask before my spam button arrives.

1) If you delete the first post before someone replies, does the whole thread disappear? I noticed an obvious spam thread recently and it vanished, and I'm hoping that's why.

2) Is there any confirmation dialog if you click the button? I'd hate to accidentally delete a legitimate post. I use a cordless trackball, and now and then I drop it and exciting things happen.

Normally spam threads with responses in it will just fade off the front page and get lost in the archives. Though I suppose someone could simply remove any subsequent posts using the spam button plus I can delete my own posts without using the spam button if I wanted to.

Yes there is a dialogue that comes up once the spam button is clicked on
Yes, I want to delete or No, I made a mistake.
It takes another confirmation to make it happen.

The one I saw... earlier today or yesterday just vanished. There weren't enough posts to make it slide off the front page. But I never actually looked inside, so maybe it wasn't spam, and the OP deleted it or changed the title.

Very good. That's the sensible way, but some of the other features are so minimalist here, I wondered.

Thanks, Pugsy.

Yes, if you hit the "Report Spam" button before there are any replies, the post vanishes from the board index.

Otherwise, they will roll off the first page pretty quickly as Pugsy noted, if people do not keep replying

Cool Complete destruction would be much more satisfying than watching a spam's headless corpse slowly slip away.
