Dealing with High Pressures

I've always lived in the SE, burbs of Detroit as a kid, downriver, now A2. we spend a bit of time near Charlevoix at our friends in the summer and the occasional winter weekend. My neighbor keeps a boat near Bad Axe, Saginaw Bay is a nice place to sail, can't beat the outdoor opportunities in Mich. I'm looking forward to tramping through the woods looking for morels.

Oooooh! Morels!! My dad and I used to go after them every year. So gooooood! And wild asparagus ....

My hubby is a Maine-iac and they always collected fiddleheads every spring and canned for the entire year. I keep trying to convince him to bring some fiddleheads back here to Michigan to plant. He insists ME, NH, VT and Quebec only place it grows. I insist the weather isn't all that different here and it should transplant and grow well here. So far .... he's a bull-headed frenchman and we haven't brought any back .... *sigh* Fiddleheads look most like spinach when cooked but taste most like asparagus.

I got a few morels in Tenn last week, under an old apple tree. it's a very good year there, though I think it's over that far south. They were yummy! I like fiddleheads also, get some ostrich fern plants or roots, they will multiply, you'll have fiddleheads to wave at the bull headed Frenchman before he knows it. They do just fine here. Google Morel progression map for up to date morel finds , of course people will only give you very general info, I'm not handing out the lat/long of my favorite spots to anyone either!

The horses should be leaving this year and the back pasture floods every spring so I'll have the perfect place to plant them!!!

Son in law is FINALLY getting around to the barn and fencing for the horses at their place. I'll miss the horses - but will appreciate having my foyer closet to use as a closet instead of a tack room!!! I'll REALLY miss the old mare. She's spent her entire 29 years here. But she wouldn't be happy w/o her buddies.

Ooohh! Horses! pasture! I'd be looking for puffballs this summer / fall and if I had any tree stumps esp oak,in that pasture I'd keep an eye out for some hen of the woods this fall. I do like to look for fungi! Happy hunting
