Respironics System One
Respironics System One
Hello!
This is my first post here, and I was wondering if someone here could answer a question about the data info on the System One info screen.
I have been on 8 cm pressure, as prescribed by my Doctor, for the past two years. Did the titration level study also.
For the past few months my cpap therapy has not seemed as effective as it was originally, so my doctor said I could try apap with a narrow range of 6-12 cm, and was told we could broaden the range if needed, at a later time. After a month or so, I gradually raised up the pressure range to 8-14 cm. During this process, my AHI has actually gone up from about an average of 3, to now about 5. Also, on the '90% Pressure' screen, it seems no matter what the top range pressure number is (right now, 14cm) it seems to reflect that high number.
So my question is, does that mean I probably need an even higher pressure range? And also, should I be concerned about the slightly higher AHI?
I asked the tech at my dme, but I couldn't get a straight answer. He just sugested I talk to my doctor again about opening the range up to 20 cm.
Like I said, sleep study showed I needed 8 cm of pressure, and I would agree that my pressure needs may have changed since then, but even my doctor doubts they changed that much, because I certainly don't feel anywhere near as bad a pre-cpap therapy.
Any thoughts, or ideas?

Re: Respironics System One
I think you need to get the computer software and upload some reports so we can take a look at them. Its a strange case to be sure.
Re: Respironics System One
I agree that the software will help in identifying the problem.
I know for me, the doc cut my top pressure down because as the machine chased the obstructive apneas and hypopneas, the higher pressures were causing more central apneas with a result of a higher overall AHI.

Re: Respironics System One
Yup, sometimes we need a slightly lower rather than a higher pressure. Not often maybe, but it happens.

Re: Respironics System One
You cannot count on the LED screen data on the PR S1 to use to make changes to your therapy. It only reports 7 and 30 day AVERAGES, and that particularly makes the "Large Leak Data" worse than useless. You would need to have a large leak the size of a jet plane wash going on for 30 or 40 minutes to even show 1% on the 7 day average. Smaller, but still significant leaks won't show up. You also can't see on that screen what is making your apneas go up (i.e. more centrals or hypopneas?).
It could be that at the higher pressure you are having leaks causing your higher AHI, or centrals, but you will NEVER find out from looking at the screen. You or your doctor MUST use the software to get a detailed look in order to understand what's really going on.

That's what I'm beginning to think! I'm going to see about getting the software, as suggested by most of you. Thanks to EVERYONE who replied. I'll see if I can figure out what to do with the software, and maybe I can get it properly interpreted.blakepro wrote:I think you need to get the computer software and upload some reports so we can take a look at them. Re: Respironics System One
I took the advice offered here, and downloaded Encore Pro for Windows 32 bit. I'm running Windows Vista.Janknitz wrote:You or your doctor MUST use the software to get a detailed look in order to understand what's really going on.
I have tried multiple times to install the program, but every time I attempt this, I'm prompted to reboot my computer before I can install it. After rebooting, the same prompt says I must reboot.
I even tried uninstalling, and downloading again (after using a registry cleaner) and it still won't install.
Any computer experts in the group who have any suggestions for this problem?
Re: Respironics System One
I would suggest changing subject line to "Problems installing software on PR S1" to hopefully get the attention of the computer gurus.

Log in as administrator and see if it installs.
Sometimes, simply entering the administrator password is not enough.
