OT: Drinking water, suggestions please
Re: OT: Drinking water, suggestions please
A very important point. I would be more concerned about this than I would be about finding a pure water alternative.xenablue wrote:I too, am diabetic and found that that constant thirst went away once I got my glucose numbers under control.

I try to drink at least a half gallon of water a day if not more. I try to save the Diet caffeine-free Cokes/Dr Peppers as a one can a day treat, usually in the evening when I've already had enough water. And, although they do contain a few things, Aquafina's FlavorSplash are tasty. Zero carbs and calories, though they do have a little Sucralose and preservatives.
The best advice that I ever got about diabetes was very simple: Its not about giving up everything with carbs - its about moderation. Moderation is not easy for me. But it is easier than completely stopping things that I like.

I have an Ice tea brewer and use green tea. On top of the tea bags I Put about 2 tablespoons of honey and the flavor blends well with the tea as it brews. Using this as my main source of liquid has helped me maintain blood sugar level around 90 and by high blood pressure is now usually around 115/75. I also augment this with meals of pork and a huge salad w/ homemade dressing. Have lost 65 LBS in the last 5 months and cannot remember when I felt this good.

My Mom taught me to put a little cranberry juice in my water. Love water now!

First, many many thanks for all the suggestions; I really appreciate it! I think there are some suggestions here I will look into. A bit of cranberry juice in the water sounds interesting and I will take a look at some of the other waters as well. I know the aspartame is BAD and I have to kick this.
Some of you mentioned blood sugar levels. I was diagnosed about 7 yrs ago. I changed my diet, started exerising and lost 50 lbs. Blood sugar readings and AHI have been great ever since, but I have never lost the thirst. I have always been very thirsty, as long as I can remember.
I know there was some mention of tap water as well. I have lived many places and it seems my taste buds do not discriminate..I hate all water equally, whether it comes from the tap or a bottle. I have tried the lemon in water and hate it. Sorry, I know LOTS of people like that; I guess I am a hard case.
I am going to go through all these posts again very carefully and take some notes. I just want all of you to know how much I appreciate your responses. If (no, WHEN) I find the answer, I will post an update.
Again, many thanks!

Re: OT: Drinking water, suggestions please
I like water a LOT more since I started drinking reverse osmosis water, which is the purest water available other than distilled, distilled typically taste a little funny depending on brand, reverse osmosis has NO TASTE AT ALL, which is fantastic compared to tap or spring water.
Tap water is disgusting. The World's water had been "recycled" about 6 times, just think about what that really means, its bluddy gross. Tap water, thats good old recycled water being recycled again by putting it through some coarse filters with good ole cancer causing clorine (look it up, google it) thrown in it to hopefully kill all the bad stuff, nice.
Spring water can be worse, depending on the source, bottling technique, etc etc, most people have read these articles. I have another issue with Spring water too as do a good few people I know, it gives you stomach pains, especially if you drink it cold, all the hard minerals in it and such are hard on the guts apparently.
So I drink Reverse Osmosis Water bought in 18 litre bottles and stuck on my water cooler at home and have been for 10 years. Its 99.9% pure, it goes through a very stringent filtering process (they actually use tap water and fully admit it but when they are done its a whole new substance) and then its treated with a UV light to get rid of any microscopic baddies that squeak through the filters. Its has absolutley NO flavour and after drinking this you realize just how bad the tap water tastes (due to the clorine chemical mostly). You can buy similiar systems for your home to drink RO water as well, but I'm not sure it comes out as pure as when done professionally.

This is what I do as well, strawberries, cranberries, blueberries, there are tons of NATURAL ways to spruce up good ole adams ale if you really want to... Just find a flavour you like. Flavour water you buy is just this but with artificial flavouring most of the time, sometimes they have some natural in there, usually wont be all natural, some of them taste pretty good but watch the sugars and stuff, better all n_a_t_u_r_a_l if you ask me.nanwilson wrote:How about water with a slice of lemon, orange or lime in it.
