Stupid post. I know EDS is not the "norm." You sound like you are trying to rationalize not using CPAP gear, looking for an excuse not to use the equipment.

I have long maintained that more than 50% of the population has serious sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) or will develop it as they age. Someday I might be proved wrong - the percentage is higher.

The anatomy of the human airway is different from all other animals because of our advanced voice box and this makes us susceptible to SDB. The modern diet has contributed to smaller jaws and our brains continue to evolve to larger masses so the cranofacial problem contributes to SDB.

Since you asked a question like that, you might enjoy reading Dr. Steven Park's article and blog, http://doctorstevenpark.com/ .

You will find good leading-edge information about SDB there.

I don´t know, but it is very interesting what you say. I know of a doctors wife who is concerned and notices his husbands apnea, but he say she is just exagerating. I bet that in a 5 years time, everyone will know someone using a machine.

Hopefully that untreated (or undiagnosed) doctor is still alive in that 5 years.
