i have been told i have a deviated septum, has anyone had the surgery for this?i have been on cpap for 12 months and i am still struggling to keep the mask on and extremely sleepy and tired most days, maybe surgery would help.....
deviated septum
I had a deviated septum repaired several years ago... probably...... somewhere around 12 to 15 years ago. Not a great deal of fun, but the discomfort really subsided pretty fast. Within a week I FELT ok, but it does take several weeks for the swelling to go away even though on the OUTside, people don't see you as being swelled up.
It seems to have gone back to it's prior deviate ways, although not as severe. It still works pretty good, but one side noticeably better than the other. My doc says that's really kinda normal with that surgery. I'm 53 and I'm not doing it again. My xPAP therapy is working fine the way things are now.
That being said, I should also state that you'll get the most out of CPAP treatment if your nose is working pretty good.

The way a good ENT performs surgery today compared to 15 years ago is much different. You will have a few days of wearing a splint and then have to flush for a couple of weeks.
Were your turbinates ok? I am having mine done in a month along with a deviated septum. I have mild apnea with minimal to no Hypos so this might just be the answer to my CPAP
