Something new happening

Post by epark300 » Sat Apr 09, 2011 8:44 am

Good morning. The past few nights I have woke up struggling to breath. I pull the mask away from my face and air is flowing out of the mask. It feels like it is just hard to move air. Weird.

Have you checked your data? Were you having an event just before you woke up? Or were the vent holes on your mask covered?

Check your pressure settings...maybe your pressure is too low.

It does sound like that maybe your pressure is set a tad too low, and you are having apnea events. tweek it up a tad...(just a tad)

Look closely at the nasal pillows, I think the LT pillow is a double layer like the Swift FX; and the inner cone can get inverted; which affects how the pillow works.
Always go for the easy fix first--good luck on a solution.

I will check the pillows when I get home and make sure they are correct. My pressure is a 9. Also I don't have the software to download data so I just look at results via the clinical menu. When looking for events what do I look at. There are a lot of different stuff on that menu.

Thanks for the help. There is some good help in this forum that you can't get from the clinic or doc.

If you can keep your wits about you, hold still, don't adjust anything and see if you can breathe normally and get air through the mask. Purse your lips and let air flow in your nose and out your mouth and feel with your hand to see how much air flow is available. Wear it for a while longer, take deep breaths and see if you can get over the suffocating feeling.

Maybe you can figure out whether it's you or the machine. I had somewhat similar episodes and needed more pressure, but didn't realize it. I went through some miserable medical problems I thought were unrelated until I adjusted my pressure.

I think the ResMed monitoring software is free. Am I right? Get it and learn how to use it.
