Had a good night's sleep last night as I thought I would. My birth day was Thursday so tonight I plan on going to the OutBack and have a couple of Fosters in a tall frosty mug before I dive into big juicy prim rib. Life is good being a hose head.
As our Australia bothers and sisters would say, Cheers!
BEER VS WINE

Happy birthday Kempo!

No, that one does not irritate me. I know the articles and accepted what they say a long time back.jnk wrote:(Just so you know, I only quoted all those articles to irritate Ro(o)ster. He HATES it when I do that! )
After being diagnosed with sleep apnea I have faithfully restricted drinking to one or two glasses of beer or wine at lunch and nothing any later. (Maybe two shots of Scotch with a big breakfast. )
But I also would not argue with cotech's evaluation of his experience:
cotech50 wrote:I know that alcohol is not recommended B4 sleep but in my experience a nice glass of good red wine a couple hours prior to retiring helps me most of the time sleep straight through the night anywhere from 6-9 hrs. Now I can have 2 beers same time period and seems I have to get up anywhere from 1 to 2 times to pee. My AHI runs less that 2 most of the time. On nights with no wine seems if I wake after 4or 6 hrs many times cannot get back to sleep. JUST MY OBSERVATION!

I have a vision that we will figure out an easy way to ensure that children develop wide, deep, healthy and attractive jaws and then obstructive sleep apnea becomes an obscure bit of history.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ycw4uaX ... re=related

From some early studies, alcohol is a CNS depressant and lowers the threshold at which the neuro system detects and responds to apneic events. But I haven't seen any studies on ETOHs influence on apnea treated with CPAP. But the way I figure it as long as you are on "successful" treatment with an automatic adjusting machine, mild to moderate alcohol use should have no effect. The machine should compensate for the alcohol. And, supposedly 1-2 gasses of a nice Pinot Noir are actually good for you.
Of course if you get so drunk you puke in the mask all bets are off.
On the urination at night issue:
I use an empty quart juice bottle next to my bed to use as a urinal. It reduces the commute time. If I have to wake up long enough to find the light switch and distinguish between the toilet, sink or bath tub I am now really sleep disrupted. While I'm up, I may as well have a smoke. And, the cold floors in the Winter don't help either. So, as long as I have good aim, I PInot More. Don't know about the ladies, ...they just have to be creative.
