question about sd card and card reader for VPAP auto 25

Post by bayourest » Wed Apr 06, 2011 4:14 am

Is it necessary to have a proprietary ResMed SD card for a VPap Auto 25 machine? Also, is it possible to use a generic card reader with this machine/card in order to access data via software on an XP PC?
I seem to recall reading on the forum that some machines need a proprietary card and/or card reader (meaning manufactured & sold by ResMed, I believe) in order to collect and access data via the software.
thanks

Generic will not work unfortunately. If you could find the proper cables (null modem I think and also very scarce now) you can do a machine to computer connection. See above link for what it says about data management.

No, the standard SD card won't work in the ResMed S8-based VPAP Auto 25. And you do need a proprietary card reader, which is now only sold in Australia as near as I could tell back in November and December when I was shopping for bi-level machines.

That was the number one reason that I wound up switching from the Resmed S9 Autoset to the PR System One BiPAP Auto when the doctor switched me to bi-level: I just was not comfortable with the idea of having to have a proprietary card and card reader that I was not sure I'd be able to get my hands on. The PR System One BiPAP Auto does use a standard SD card with no special reader needed. Encore Viewer is at least readily available in the states, even if it does cost $99 and Encore Pro can be downloaded if you don't mind fighting to install it. Both Encore Viewer and Encore Pro should install with no problems on a PC running XP (as long as the machine is 32-bit, which if I recall, was the standard back in the XP days.)

If this is same card and card reader Ebay is the only place I have found it recently but have not been to Aussie website
even this one is located in Israel.

Don't know your situation or why the consideration for the ResMed VPAP but this restriction does warrant inspection and thought as to what you want to do.

Which machine would be the equivalent in the Respironics line? With just a wee bit of instruction EncorePro is not the horrible beast it is made out to be. Just a PITA sometimes. Most of the bulk is from stuff not used and just ignored.

The PR System One BiPAP Auto is the equivalent machine in the Respironics line to the Resmed (S-8 based) VPAP Auto 25.

Thanks, I thought that was the case. I think you already mentioned that and I just missed it.
I am with Robysue. If I was in the market for this type of machine, I would go with PR S1 because of the issues with the data collection. Now if this was to be a backup machine and extremely good deal money wise and data collection not so important, then maybe yes on the ResMed. For primary machine I would want the data easily. Those data cards and card readers for the S8 line of machines are getting more and more difficult to find. I would be wondering what if I had one and needed a replacement (dog ate it?) in a year from now, what if none were to be had anywhere?

S9 series bi-levels require proprietary card and reader?

I think the issue is that the only ResMed bi level available yet is in the S8 series. Don't think there has been a release for one in the S9 series yet.
This appears to be the only one available at cpap.com for now.
