I also have a 50-D, MAC, Snow Leopard, and Win XP, but with Boot Camp rather than Parallels. I've had no problem. But I have learned:

1. You must use the USB cable that came with the 50D.
2. Have SpO2 Review running before connecting the 50D to the computer.
3. Sometimes recognition of the 50D is s-l-o-w.
