Lizistired,
I'm inclined to agree that the problem may be using the neti pot too close to bedtime. Last night I was able to get a bit more time between neti pot and climbing into bed and the puppy dog nose problem was still there but not quite so bad.
So I've resolved to try to get the net pot done much earlier in the night to see if that will help.
And I have to say (as a new neti pot user), I am truly amazed at how much difference the neti pot makes with my day-to-day congestion and that nasty drip in the back of my throat. I'm also amazed that it is not as gross or as uncomfortable as I was expecting it to be.
Wet nose

Re: Wet nose
Robysue,
How about doing the neti-pot as part of your "after dinner clean up"? That way you can still keep your "getting ready for bed" routine at the same time. If you are at home during the evening, it might work. Eat dinner...clean up dinner... neti pot...evening activities...getting ready for bed. If you are out and about, then it might not work so well. Or, if you are going out after dinner, that might also not work, since you will most likely be encountering more pollen. (If pollen is your allergen.)
Just an idea.

Re: Wet nose
That's the problem: Two nights a week I'm teaching a class from 6:15 to 8:45 and don't get home until after 9:00. Supper those nights is early and at the college cafeteria. *sigh* And we're way too relaxed about dinner dishes when we cook at home. I grew up with put them in the sink for later that night and have unfortunately trained my hubby to tolerate dirty dishes in the sink. Since it's just the two of us, we don't even bother with the dishes on many nights (as awful as that may sound) since we simply haven't dirtied up that many.jbn3boys wrote:If you are at home during the evening, it might work. Since the PA wants me to take the melatonin two hours before bedtime, it's reasonable for to try to get the melatonin, the nightly dose of depakote, and the neti pot out of the way around 11:00--11:30 if I can just remember to start doing them then instead of waiting until it's after midnight.
And pollen is the allergen in question.

Now THAT sounds like a plan! Although, knowing me, I'd have to set an alarm to remind me!robysue wrote:Since the PA wants me to take the melatonin two hours before bedtime, it's reasonable for to try to get the melatonin, the nightly dose of depakote, and the neti pot out of the way around 11:00--11:30 if I can just remember to start doing them then instead of waiting until it's after midnight.

Re: Wet nose
Hi all. I have to pipe in here. I've never used a neti pot or any such thing, yet a couple of nights ago I experienced the wet dog nose situation too. I'm watching this thread closly because I'd like to see how this gets resolved. In Denver, the temperature is supposed to reach 77 today, I'm considering using the pillows tonight. I'm just wondering if the room temperature is the real culprite and has something to do with this. *thinking out loud*
Robysue, I don't wish to embarass you. Just a thought, I don't think this thread is getting the exposure it needs.
Would you mind if I retitle this thread? See if we can get more input here?

And if for some reason you can't---just post your suggested title and I'll be happy to retitle myself since I know I can do that by editing the first post.
