just bought an oximeter

Post by nmevan » Sat Apr 02, 2011 11:37 am

hello

I just purchased the SPO Medical PulseOx 7500™

Is the ultimate goal of CPAP to prevent desats and to remain above 90% oxygen during sleep?

Is there such a thing as dipping below 90% for a certain amount of time without detrimental effects?

thanks

evan

Infrequent short periods below 90% (a few seconds) are not uncommon amongst many of, but ideally it would be nice to remain all night long well above 90%.
Repetition of short periods all night long and medium to long periods probably are not good.
My oximeter came preset with 88% as the alarm setting (when the alarm is on).
Post your results when you have them, if you please.

Check out the yellow lightbulb at the top of the page. That's the wiki with all the answers.

There are no stupid questions, eh?

Good luck.

I would say, yes. The CPAP's ultimate goal is to avoid your body's blood Oxygen level to drop below dangerous level over certain length time. During my Sleep Study my level taken at the finger tip, and before using a CPAP dropped to 84% saturation, especially during REM sleep. After using a CPAP it stayed above 90% at all times.

evan, your report looks great. I am wondering how could I set the time on such a graph to synchronise with my ResScan graphs. If it's inside a laptop there might be away to stretch it to the right size to match ResScan's. Otherwise, each graph could be printed out with the required enlargement and both pasted together.
