Real men do NOT need instructions.....

Post by McSnoresalot » Fri Apr 01, 2011 12:30 pm

Have been having some lower back pain the last few weeks - choose to blame it on the Facehugger, really started to notice it out on the driving range last week. Have read on here that some people get back pain from being on the machine - maybe from new sleeping positiions?

Anyway - been wanting to get an Inversion Table for a while now to add to the work-out equipment gathering dust in the garage.

An Inverstion Table is a device that allows you to hang from your ankles and you can control the degree of inverted-ness from 0 to 90 degrees (flat on your back to upside down) - supposed to be really good for your back.

Bought the table on Sat. - got a cheapy on sale for $70, tossed it into the garage to be dealt with later.

Later was last night - back was bugging me so I went out to put the Table together and see if it would help.

Cheap Chinese unit complete with un-intelligble instructions in stilted English - had to use the picto-grams.

Got to about step 14 of the 20 some steps and decided I didn't need the instructions anymoe - I could see where it all went together, the vision was there, just wanted to get it done.

Screwed in the last bolt, jumped on the unit, strapped my ankles in and Whhhooooossssshhh - upside down!! yay.......wait, how do I get back upright?

Oh Crap - that safety strap thing I tossed aside must have been important.....and that bit abut adjusting the pivot point for my height and weight - I can see where that would have been useful.

It was funny at first - but then I began to realize that all my gyrations were not going to get it back up......crap, crap, crap, crap.......Wifey and the kids are gone on some errand, I'm hanging upside down stuck in the garage - I start rocking the freaking thing side to side - figured out that I was going to be able to knock it over but wanted to try and control where it fell so it wouldn't crash into the Vette or the Boat....

Long story short - put a big dent in the sheetrock of the garage but got out of the trap - reveiwed the instructions and now have the pivot point correct and the safety strap on.

Mac, you do tell the best stories!

Felt like we were all there.... laughing in shocked amazement... laughing too hard to lift a finger to help you out of the clutches of the contraption.

Besides, we all wanted to see just how you'd do it. All our bets were on you!

Better to dent the sheetrock than the Vette!
That poor Vette has had a hard life - bought it when I was 17 years old - 1st car, Pops was none too pleased when they delivered the burnt-out hulk on the back of a flatbed. Cost me $2500 in 198something - took me 2 years to get it legally driveable and on the road - put it in a ditch a week later and had to start over. Had it for nearly 15 years before I finally got the first decent paint job on it - got stolen 3 days after the paint job and the asshats drove it through a couple of fences and into a farmers field before destroying the front clip and suspension. It runs and looks good right now, I let the girls drive it as reward for good grades, dumping bad boyfriends etc... Wifey drives it like she stole it on the rare occasions she finds the keys, calls it the "other woman" and has no problem abandoning it wherever if it won't start for her or stalls....

How's the back pain?
Jury's out on the effectiveness of the Table - I lost interest in it last night (for obvious reasons) reading up on the subject, they say it takes a while for you to get used to it enough to relax your muscles....we'll see.

I might not read the instructions, but I'd probably watch the youtube video about it.

Hi Mac

A great story.

When I went to buy one I suddenly realised that it was probably not a good idea, being as I suffer from untreated acid reflux, and my LES resembles a hole rather than a sphincter.

Anyhow, on the way out of the shop I saw -

http://www.activeforever.com/p-1443-lum ... tcher.aspx

and thought I might as well try it out.

It is a miracle worker. I love it. And you can probably ignore the instructions in safety

My back is now functional for most of the day, and no pain. It only takes a few minutes too.

But please, continue with your stories

cheers

I think this story should be listed under the,
"....here, hold my beer and watch this!" category.

I deal w/my low back w/exercise and stretching.
Requires less equipment and tools.....
but does take some effort.
