"Cold Airstream" Cpap Options?

Post by DavidCarolina » Fri Apr 01, 2011 12:25 pm

Im still a newbie, and ive read about some "heated" paps. Im imagining this is for people living up north or
other reasons?

Ive discovered that on cold nights, I LOVE the cold air blow through the pap, it feels like a fresh breeze.

Unfortunately, with the humidifier set on "3", i get a pretty lukewarm breath and it doesnt feel refreshing at all,
in fact, im thinking of getting my setting changed for 10 to 11 or 12 because it feels like im sucking that
lukewarm air into my lungs with a straw.

ANy solutions?

What machine and humidifier are you using? With some there are ways to reduce the heat and not lose the moisture so much. Some people don't want or need the heated humidity and turn the heat part off and use only passover humidity (water in tank but not warmed). It is a personal need and choice decision.

Respironics Automatic.

Hmmmm, i hadnt thought of the passover humidity. Does that work?

I'll have to give that a try.

It does work for some people. The little bit of moisture picked up by air moving over water (that is not heated) is enough for some people. Me, no way. I need the moisture or my nasal passages scream bloody something awful.
Other people can use minimal heat or no heat or even no water at all. It is an individual preference.

If you are using the ramp feature you could try turning it off.

Which Respironics machine? If you would add your equipment to your profile would make it easier for us to help you.

I wouldn't go changing the machine pressure just to get cooler air. Not good to change pressure unless well thought out with specific reasons behind it.

i have experimented a little and know exactly what you are talking about. when i'm out camping i sleep like i did when i was a kid! my humidifier is the stand alone F&Phc150. you can use just the replacement chambers (can't remember the #). you can use it as passover putting in ground ice from the fridge. the problemis it only lasts an hour or so. but that is usually long enough to get to sleep.
with me it actually reduced the swelling in my nose thus the stuffiness. could use my nasal mask for a while.
i wondered about freezing some water in it but since i have no spares i opted out of that idea. let us know if you come upwith something.
