Noisy machine? New product: CPAP Silencer

Post by BleepingBeauty » Tue Mar 29, 2011 9:58 am

Found this recently and thought I'd post it for anyone who has issues with the noise (or lights) from their machine.

I had a question about how this unit maintains good airflow, since it appears to not have any large openings to facilitate that. So I called the number on the website and spoke with the manufacturer. He assured me that the units have been tested for this and meet the requirement.

There are two holes in the back of the unit, one for the hose and another for the power cord and airflow. You can see them on page two of the website.

Darn, seeing your subject, I had a great picture in my mind of a very big gun with an even bigger silencer.

Sorry!

(Muffy is fond of the Dillon, but I don't think it has a silencer on it. Methinks she likes the big BOOM. )

Wouldn't that be awkward to fill the humidifier?

I used to think my machine was so noisey, but it got quieter after I got used to it.

I hear that (pun intended)!

Considering the machine would be hidden inside, yes, you'd have to open the thing up to get to the machine and the humidifier. I'm guessing the top lifts off completely (or maybe is hinged on one side) to make access easier.

Thankfully, I've never had an issue with machine noise (or even those evil blue lights on my former M-Series), but I know both things can be bothersome for many. At this point, hearing my machine gives me peace of mind.

I find the sound of my machine to be a peaceful, quiet, soothing, white noise in the background....don't really even hear it most nights. So, I guess I have no reason to hide my machine.

Regards to all,

Jersey Girl

Putting your machine on a mousepad will kill about half the noise. Laying a folded towel on top will absorb most of the rest...AND cover those spooky blue lights! It also serves to wipe the sweat/drool/etc in the middle of the night if necessary.

All at a cost less than the shipping on this monster... (probably free if your "computer junk" closet is like mine!)

We use this little gadget on our M Series and it does muffle the sound somewhat although I think we're used to the sound now anyway and it wouldn't bother us. I don't know if it fits on other models. We use a thick mouse pad too.

I've been "lucky" in that i wear foam earplugs to sleep, and the noise level of the S9 is lower than the level the plugs block. However, if they made one of these that was also a kind of tabletop, I'd go for that to regain bedside table space.

I have been itching to try the new PR S1 APAP. So last weekend I break the news to my husband what I wanted.
He says "why, you have 2 machines already" I say "the new one is supposedly quieter and offers data I don't get on the machines I have"
So Sunday morning he wakes up before I do. Says he laid there listening....tried really hard to hear my M series machine... moved over right in front of my face (remember I was asleep) trying to hear something... He says he can't hear the machine nor can he hear the mask vent. Says I have to come up with another excuse for the new PR machine.
Okay, I have to resort to "I just want the extra data because I am curious". Of course, being She Who must be Obeyed, that is sufficient.

Neither noise or blue lights have ever bothered me. I can't see the lights with eyes closed and I have never been able to hear much of anything except a bit of normal venting of the air. Hearing has been checked so I know that isn't an issue. I am supposing that some people are just more sensitive to sounds but I have 2 M series APAPS and both are equally quiet.

See, Pugsy, as a computer geek, "Why do you want another machine" isn't really a question that requires an answer. Geekiness has it's privileges LOL

Hey Pugs, how about some "waterworks", it always does the job for me! Though somehow I don't see you using that scheme!

We've been together now 9 years. Sort of found each other late in life. You know me too well, not a "waterworks" kind of girl. He usually ends any discussion with "whatever you want honey, you know I don't care". I am not quite 5 ft tall, he is 6'2" and always tells people that he was 6'4" before he met me. I am usually the pragmatic person when it comes to where the money goes. I have a long list of "I wants" but a short list of "money coming in" kind of thing.
I will need to sell the back up M series APAP, there is no sense in having 3 machines.

I just thought it was funny that he tried so hard to hear my machine now and couldn't. I took some razzing but I expected it. If I wanted the moon and he could give it to me, he would do it in a heartbeat.

If you cant handle a little noise, your need for CPAP is probably not that great and you could probably do without the gear. I find the noise of the older louder machines to be not noticeable when I could feel myself getting down deep into good quality sleep and waking up feeling better.

I laugh at this new crowd sleep medicine is obviously pulling in who are told they have OSA....personally after reading a lot of the posts here Im skeptical a lot of the people here even have OSA.

Eric
