Hello, I was just hoping someone could review my comments and give me some ideas. Ok, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about six months ago. During my sleep study, I only had one obstructive apnea, most of my apneas were central. Anyway, the doctor said that the equipment might not be sensitive enough and he said that it could make my obstructive apneas look like centrals. I was put on the CPAP. Initially, the results were good. I started going to the gym, doing boxing, and martial arts. Everyone commented on how much better I seemed at work. I was not as brain dead and I had a lot of energy. But now it has been six months and I feel like I'm right back to were I started. I'm so tired. I can't even sit down at work because I will fall asleep. My relationships are suffering because I'm irritable. I'm so tired that communication is very difficult. I'm so negative and it is very depressing. Also, my cognitive function is not very good. I look at the readout on my CPAP very often. It says my apneas are all below 0.9. In addition, my leak rate is extremely low. I don't understand how I could be so tired if those things are correct. I don't know what to do. I can't live like this. I can't function at work like this. Do you guys have any ideas why I would respond good to CPAP initially and now It does not seem to be working? If central apnea is my main problem, what can I do to treat that effectively? If any of you can help me I would be very greatful.
Sincerely,
Sleepy John

Re: CPAP not working anymore!
There could be other underlying causes to the fatigue. Have you had a complete physical recently?? I know that for me, I have Hashimoto's thyroid disease and it caused me to have extreme fatigue and brain fog before treatment. The diagnosis is done through a blood test to check for Thyroid Antibodies. Most doctors don't check the antibodies unless other thyroid levels are off, but for me, and my daughter too, our other thyroid tests were normal. But when the antibody levels were checked, we both had them present. Just a suggestion. I hope you get some answers soon.

BUT, you haven't told us a darned thing about what type of equipment you're using or any meaningful information to go on.
It sounds like you have a data-capable machine.......which one? (specific brand and model)
What mask?
What's your pressure?
Why don't you register on the forum and tell us more.
If you're using a nasal mask (as opposed to a full face mask), you could be leaking your therapy air out your mouth while you sleep.......thereby nullifying your therapy.

Sorry, I will give you some more info. My machine is a resmed s9. According to the machine, over the last 6 months my average leak rate has been 6.0 and my AHI IS 1.2. Lately, the AHI has been under 1. The mask I'm using is a nasal pillow. My pressure is 8.
Re: CPAP not working anymore!
Definitely get yourself to a doctor and get a full check-up. As another already mentioned, thyroid problems can cause excessive daytime sleepiness, and perhaps there are other medical problems that can also cause this suite of symptoms. Do take care of yourself-- as your instincts are telling you, that situation isn't sustainable.

Re: CPAP not working anymore!
Hi There,
When this happened to me--found out I had very LOW Vit. D levels and diabetes--:(. I too have an under producing thyroid----Hypothryroidism--that alone will make you feel tired, depressed and brain fog!!!
I would suggest getting some blood work done ---It could be something simply as taking some supplements or thyroid meds. Good Luck,
Carrie
