Immediately started Flomax.
W/in weeks I could start to feel my life draining away.It had no effect on symptoms of BPH.
That is some bad stuff.
I have never heard that. My dad was on it recently in addition to Avodart. Could you elaborate on the side effects?
Come to think of it, Avodart was the first script he was put on and it's been downhill ever since.

Me too. And the effect was immediate. The change took place on the first night. That's one way you know something's happening, even if the subjective benefits take a little longer to register.

I wish the article were a little clearer about one thing. Is it trying to say that many men diagnosed with BHP because of their nocturia actually have OSA instead? Or is it saying that in many men who actually have BHP, it is OSA and not BHP that is causing their nocturia?

For most men, these nightly bathroom runs may be the first sign of an enlarged prostate. Other symptoms may include trouble starting a stream of urine, leaking, or dibbing. The type of treatment needed for prostate enlargement depends on the severity of the signs and symptoms being experienced.
If you follow the link you will see ella14 is a spammer promoting a worthless supplement. I could have deleted her post but it is better to correct it.

You are just wrong that the most common problem for men with nocturia is BPH. The most common problem for men with nocturia is sleep apnea and that is what the study in the OP shows.

So if you have nocturia, men and women, you should be screened for sleep-disordered breathing. Very few GPs know to do this so you have to watch out for yourself and make sure you get screened.

Men should also be checked for BPH and for prostate cancer with an annual PSA test and digital exam.

Pre-cpap, I lived w/a daily fatigue.
It would start a few hours into everyday.
My legs would ache and concentration took
major effort. I thought it was just life.

Post-cpap, I realized what was happening.
As the therapy started to work and I regained
my life, the fatigue and pain gradually subsided
and for the most part, is gone.
I will never forget that pain.

When I started the Flomax, it was within weeks,
I started to feel that old, familiar pain and fatigue.
The soreness, achy feeling in my legs, as soon as my
day started. That run down feeling starting in the
afternoon. Legs feeling sore and tired, 10min into
a bike ride. It's wasn't rocket science to realize
what was happening. At 7wks, I quit taking it.
It took about 3wks for the pain to subside.
It never addressed the BPH symptom I was having.

The BPH is now undercontrol w/supplements of sawpalmetto,
lots of lycopene, a multi-vitamine w/lots of zinc and copper, l-glutamine and CoQ10.
I include a big dose of flaxseed oil to all of this. It seems like since
I quit drinking Pepsi, hence the reduction in sugar intake,
it has improved even more.
"If your therapy is improving your health but you're not doing anything
to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

Just as a side note, For some reason, recently more and more Doctors are NOT doing the digital exam, UNLESS blood tests reveal that the PSA level is elevated. Apparently if the digital exam is done right before the PSA test, the test can show it to be temporary elevated, due to the procedure itself.
IDK? but that's what the Doc tells me...

For me, before CPAP it was like every 70 minutes, or so, I'd be up peeing, maybe 5-6 times a night. Now it's 2 times a night. I'm also on uroxatral. I'm used now to peeing quite often, so waking only a couple of times a night is a real improvement, and sometimes I wake due to cramps in my toes or someplace close to the toes.

It's a drag ...

I'd love to only wake once per night, or not at all.

That ties in with the thread about doctors who ask whether you own a gun. If the answer is yes, the doctor skips the digital rectal exam, cuts short the lecture on losing weight, and uses the good needle to take blood instead of the dull one.
