QUESTION ?

Post by mbmonkey1971 » Fri Mar 04, 2011 11:41 pm

During my sleep test, my oxygen count got down to 22 it went right back up, but the RP said it was the lowest in her 25 years of work, the next lowest being mid 40's . Well, my question is, do I need to get a heart test of some sort done to make sure I haven't suffered damage that is going to require surgery and to be sure I am not a ticking timebomb ? I was just diagnosed about a week ago, so I do not know much about this .

That's a question you need to be asking your doctor.

Welcome to the forum, mbmonkey.

As Den said, do talk to your doctor about getting your heart checked. There's always a chance that the extreme O2 dip was accidental (finger clip loosened or something) but from the tech's comment about it being the lowest she'd ever seen, maybe it was a "for real" drop.

Has anyone from the sleep lab contacted you since your study a week ago?

Did they put a cpap mask on you at any time during your study?

Has any medical person set you up with a CPAP machine yet?

Hang in here -- things will be better.

actually, yes, my resperatory nurse put the mask and oxygen on me for about 4 hrs during my sleep test and I was fitted for my cpap a couple days ago....they started me off without oxygen, at least until the doctor scores me and makes the decision as to whether or not I need oxygen , but I can tell a tremendous difference already. I don't know if it will last or get better or worse, but the last couple of days I have felt more rested than any time I can remember in the past 2 to 3 years. I wish I could find a list of all the side effects of cpap if any, and how severe they are. I do feel sort of bloated (gas) but the reflux that was waking me up every morning went away immediately , and I feel much more alert. I am still moody though, and I would love for that to go away, my wifesaid I am not the same person she married, and God bless her, she is sticking with me through it all. To me, ,that is the worst part of it......losing quality time with my wife and 2 little boys, they are the world to me.

Please take a minute and register formally so you can log-in and get full access to the features of this forum. Once you do that, your name will appear in blue, not black, and be clickable so folks can send you private messages, if needed.

Once you are logged in-- go up to the upper left and click on User Control Panel---> Profile: here fill in any info you would like ------> Edit Profile: choose your equipment from the pull down menus and then choose to show them in TEXT, not icons. This will put your equipment at the bottom of each post you write automatically which is very helpful in giving you specific help for your machine and/or mask.

As for 'side effects'--- some folks experience some, but I have to tell you that the only ones I've had are positive! This therapy takes time as you have a lot of sleep debt to pay off and your body needs to heal from the oxygen deprivation it has been experiencing. I am 7 months into this, and I am seeing more and more positive results. Clearer thinking, more rested, more energy, less aches and pains, allergies are less severe, blood pressure has come down dramatically, etc. Hang in there..... you are doing great things for your body and mind, and your family will reap the rewards of having a husband/dad who is energetic and getting healthier!

Best of luck... and keep us posted on your progress.
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
