I have the new one, got it on 18th february. (won't be much help to all of you that I got it from my french DME )
I have never tried to see if I can get the backlighting to work during therapy, since I sleep during that time

I don't think that you can get the back light to work during therapy. Turning the knob during therapy only changes he humidity level (it will turn the humidity LED that identifies humidity level for about 30 seconds but not the back light. I'll have to try it with the humidifier removed and see if that makes a difference.
Cheers

Hi,cpapernewbie wrote:This is a great thread with valuable info for me. I read months ago that Philips Respironics was working with Bose to solve the noise level. Very glad that this has resulted in a much quieter CPAP.
I have a question for builta, which is out of context but relevant to me. you bought that BPAP from CPAPauctiion but when you want to repair this, you have to go to a DME. How is the DME's reaction? Do you need to explain where you got this CPAP from? Do you have to pay some fee since this is not registered with that DME?
Thank you for your sharing of info
I did not have any problems with the local DME. I thought that I would but, I didn't. I told them right up front how I had purchased it and the fact that I only paid $300 USD for the unit and humidifier. They looked it over, told me that it was under warranty and agreed with me that the bad clock rendered the data and compliance function useless. They then took the old unit, sent it in and I had the new one back in five days. My biggest surprise was that they did not charge me to return the unit (you know - shipping and handling). I was very pleased and I can tell you that they made a loyal customer that day.
On a side note, I contacted the seller (auctioneer) of the unit, a DME from the Western side of the USA, she seemed stunned that the unit had an issue, to which they claimed to be totally unaware, of course. Their suggestion was to take it to my local DME to get it fixed.
Cheers

Re: The NEW (2011) PR System One
It's not the same thing. Your cpap machine is not "faulty" (you are just claiming it is), and your cpap machine has not been recalled. It's more like you got a 2010 new car, are still paying for it, and the new 2011 cars came out. Should they just give you a new 2011 car, just because it's newer, and you are still "renting"??hootenanny wrote:I think I should get a new machine since I'm still renting, it's under a manufacturer's warranty (2 yrs), and the principle of it. It reminds me of when car manufacturers recall vehicles due to faulty part.

thanks for the reply. I am in the same situation since now I bought CPAP from Craiglist. Your experience with your local DME give me hope. Great story to share, make sense since the manufacturer should stand by its warranty, however its is being sold to consumer. I am even willing to pay shipment cost when that happen.

You know in my direct discussion with the DME I didn't tell them that I was willing to pay for shipping. I'd let them bring up that item.cpapernewbie wrote:builta

Re: The NEW (2011) PR System One
I just got a new PR1 from cpap.com and it is the new one. So they are definitely stocking the new version.
I cant get over how much nicer it is to have a bright crisp screen that I can see in any lighting condition. I had to have a flashlight by my bed for my other one because I couldn't read it even with my bedroom light on.
Things I'm noticing that are different v.s. the old first generation one. (I had a launch unit previously)
-The power supply cord is a bit beefier and had a red ring on the tip of the plug instead of a black one. The old cord was a single round insulated cord that was comparitavely thin. The new one looks more like a traditional extention cord wire that looks like two round cords stuck together - one with a white stripe down it.
-The backlit screen. This is a HUGE improvement. I mean .. wow. its just so much better than the old screen. The text is crisp, its easy to see from just about any angle. Just fantastic.
-No GMT offset in the menu any more. (apparently only in the vary early firmwares had it. so this is nothing new for most of you)
-Classic humidity options are easy to activate. My old unit didn't do classic humidity, newer ones did it but you had to do it in a sort of mysterious way of holding buttons down a certain way for a number of seconds. These new machines just have a clearly labeled toggle in the options.
-Hose length - you can select two different hose lengths
-The air intake is different. The round hole is larger and its less obstructed than the old ones. It is noticeably quieter as well.
I think thats it for my initial reactions. If anyone has any questions, I'm happy to answer them. Thanks to everyone that has replied so far and helped with figuring stuff out.

Re: The NEW (2011) PR System One
Me too, I received yesterday my new PR System One Auto, it was bought last December. No I didn't walk from the States to here
I can add to Blakepro's list my feelings about the way pressure is delivered.
While starting the old PRSystem 1 machine I was always retaining my breath because I found the pressure started very strong and I didn't like the feeling of the first blow of pressure in my nostrils. Now I think the delivery is done in a more gentler way at starting. As Blakepro says the noise is lower, really lower all a big difference.
About the famous and heated by some folks pressure pulses: I find the way the pressure pulse is send is gentler and more slower, instead of a kind of shut (BANG) is like a small short ramp of pressure; that's my feeling. I need to say that because I didn't appreciated the old pressure pulses I unconsciously learned to breath deeper (I had a shallow breath problem) and the pressure pulse shuts where no more a problem. I need to thank those shuts for that

For everyone's benefit, notice the placement of the "Philips Respironics" Logo and the "BiPAP Auto Bi-Flex".Bluecat wrote:By the way, if you want to compare with the old version that is shown on the first page of this topic, here is a photo of the new version:
On the original Blowers (the ones without the backlight), had the "Philips Respironics" Logo on the "black housing" wrapping around the front horizonal and vertical parts of the housing and the "BiPAP Auto Bi-Flex" words are printed above the display (see https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... iflex.html

I should mention that I also got my defective machine replaced by cpap.com under warranty and they gave me the New PR1 as a replacement. So cpap.com is definitely sending them out.
