Ted the Titrator Introduction

Post by Titrator » Wed Sep 22, 2004 6:29 pm

Hello from Kentucky!!!

My name is Ted the "Titrator". I was given that name by a coworker, when I worked at the sleep lab. I always liked doing titration studies best.

I am also an "Admin" for this board, sometimes.

I have been treated for sleep apnea since 2000 and currently use a bipap at 19/13cm. I know.. that is high pressure.

My favorite cpap mask is the Breeze by Puritan Bennett. It works well for me.

I am basically a "Gear Hound". I love to try new masks, machines and I like to experiment. I have owned several autopaps and know quite a bit about them and how to intrepret the readouts that they can download.

Before I accepted the position at cpap.com I was working as a full-time sleep tech. I have a year as a sleep tech under my belt. Not an incredible amount of time, but enough to know your way around the lab. The hours are killer as a sleep tech, so an offer from cpap.com was a nice change.

I am now back with the gear and talking to people every day, helping any way that I can.

I truely enjoy posting on this message board. I have posted on a couple of others extensively. I am very happy that we started one here. This is going to be a fantastic place to swap knowlege and learn new things.

Well, that is all for me, I would love to hear from everyone else.

So post on...

occasional nasal discomfort with c.p.a.p

Post by Guest » Thu Sep 23, 2004 6:59 pm

September 23-2004 This message is or the Titrator. I have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and have been on the c.p.a.p since May 2004. Most of the time I benefit from using the c.p.a.p however there are times where I experience a nasal discomfort upon waking up or that my nose is congested.
Is this common?and why do I experience this nasal disomfort? I also find that going to bed later that i'm accustomed and using the c.p.a.p does not always insure a good rest[if i have a couple of hours of sleep]. Why do i sleep more at various times and at others it doesnt seem like i feel refreshed. A little information:I have a fisher&paykel c.p.a.p with humidifier. My pressure is '6'.
Thanks for answering my questions!

CPAP

Post by sleepingalone » Tue Sep 28, 2004 6:58 pm

My husband was just diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and has a cpap. I am looking for support from the wife's point of view. How does one adjust to sleeping with your husband and his new mask? How does it affect the marriage and spontenaity of their marriage? I am devestated by this new addition to my bed. Trying to be supportive.

Go to bed early, fool around, then thank God that you still have your husband. Have you even done any research on this condition? I am a 52 year old woman with this and my husband saved my life. I thank God every day for him and the fact that I now know where the root of my health problems are.

Thanks, Titrator,
I didn't mean to be so hard on Sleeping Alone but I have been through a lot over the past several years with my health. Nearly got us killed also when I fell asleep at the wheel. I feel very grateful to have finally found out the root of my health problems.

I am hungry for knowledge about this. I have severe obstructive sleep apnea and have only been on CPAP for 7 weeks and am already noticing remarkable changes and improvements. I'm yet to speak to any women about this though. I know there are some out there with this but right now I feel somewhat alone until I meet some women who can share. My doctor has given me support group information today so I am anxious to check out other avenues. Am continually reading up on the internet about this. I can't believe what people have been through. Many stories are mirror images to mine.

Anyway, thanks for having this forum. I'm going to explore it now!

Suserbec - I'm another woman who's new at this! I just turned 57, am told I look like I'm in my 40s, but have been feeling OLD because of the effects of my newly-named sleep apnea. I have a Respironics CPAP machine with a humidifier, and I know my pressure is set at 9. I started using it in early September with a Comfort Lite mask and am now using some headgear with an attachment that just goes into my nostrils. It's working far better for me than the mask, although I am having a lot of trouble with a very stuffy nose every day and am wondering if anyone else using one of these that deliver right to the nostrils has this trouble?

No one told me of any support groups, and so this site is a wonderful idea!

Oops! I went and looked at my machine. It's a RemStar Plus with a heated humidifier. The equipment I'm using with it is Respironics, with nasal pillows. Sorry... I'm just learning the lingo on here and am very glad this site exists!

Thank God that we have this available. Learn all you can about obstructive sleep apnea. Check for other sites which give you sleep apnea support. deav

Ted/It has been awhile since I e-mailed you a question regarding sleep apnea{obstructive sleep apnea}.Thank you for responding to my other question. Ted I have observed that occasionally when it rains that I get a little winded[short of breath].Is this common for someone who is diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea?deav
