Bendy Straw? Brilliant!!

Post by McSnoresalot » Mon Feb 28, 2011 11:36 am

Now Facehugger is conspiring to wake me up with drymouth - an no way to get a refreshing drink without taking the mask off.......but WAIT - Bendy Straws!!!

Haha machine, by cleverly connecting several Bendy Straws from my water glass I am able to quickly relieve drymouth and go back to sleep without much messing around - Match Point, Mac.

Must be getting the drymouth from exhaling?

Yeah, and the counterpart, inhaling.

So you now use some sort of Full face mask? Even with Full face mask there can be open mouth inhale and exhale and it can dry out the mouth. I would guess that even with an increase in humidity that if someone does a lot of inhale/exhale it will dry the mouth out. A lot of it depends on the person.

You have seem to beat the facehugger again though. Funny, now when I go to sleep, I rarely wake up enough to even think about getting a drink of water. Of course BC (before cpap) I would drink a bit of water with each hourly trip to the bathroom.

No - still using the Nasal mask (when not too congested) - that's why am thinking must be getting the dry mouth exhaling (or leaking) through the mouth - kinda hard to inhale through the mouth when wearing a nasal mask.

Hard to sip water because of the pressure?

I just assumed mask was covering the mouth and you were using the straw to sneak in under the mask. If you are having dry mouth and are wearing a mask that only covers the nose leaving the mouth completely uncovered, then you are losing air pressure out through the mouth and most likely losing effective therapy. Not good for Facehugger to be ineffective.

Do you have the software to look at the leak lines? I can't remember. If not, you need to get it.

Do you use some sort of chin strap? Again, I can't remember. If you are and your leak rate line is all over the place, it isn't working so well.

Never thought about using a straw... I keep a beer bottle full of water on my nightstand. Don't ask me how I figured out that would work. I might put a bendy straw in it though.

Ditto. Very basic.

Pugsy understands the KISS principle and avoids getting off on the tangents we often create here.

Yep - I have the software, Encore Pro, will take a look at the leak data.
