Been thinking about getting an uninterruptible power supply to keep the machine going in case of a nightly power outage. BUT: the one (APC) that I have for my computer keeps complaining loudly whenever the power fails. Now, granted, that would be one way to deal with a power outage (wake me up before I tear the mask from my face, screaming), but I'd rather have a UPS that just keeps supplying power quietly.
Any suggestions?

Re: UPS recommendations for CPAP Machines?
I really thought you meant United Parcel Service recommendations! You might want to change your subject line, if you don't get any responses as it is. Might be others are thinking along those lines, instead of your intended Uninterrupted Power Supply.

I knew what he meant right away.
The problem with most computer UPSs is that they won't last long enough. Even without the humidifier, a typical UPS will only last about 15 minutes.

Do a search for 'backup power', there are multiple discussions re variety of home-made and store bought options. I use a duracell 600 backup source available from amazon.com. It's good for 8+ hrs, but without humidifier running.

The load on the UPS on my stand alone desktop computer is 115 watts.pitrow wrote:The problem with most computer UPSs is that they won't last long enough. Even without the humidifier, a typical UPS will only last about 15 minutes.
The UPS can take up to 865 watts load. Of course, with that kind of a load, it would be useless.
With this 115 watt load, my UPS would keep my system running for 49 minutes.
I have my CPAP connected through another UPS just like the one for my computer system.
Surely, it would run my CPAP (with the humidifier only in passover mode) for more than 15 minutes.

Re: UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for CPAP Machines?
Take a look inside the UPS case. The speaker is either the old fashion type connected to the board with two wires or, more likely, the compact type soldered directly to the board. Cut or unplug the wires if it's the first. Unsolder from the board if it's the second.
If you are hesitant to perform radical surgery on the UPS, put some some noise insulating material around the speak to reduce the sound level.
