How do you track your CPAP maintenance/service/parts/etc?

Post by joeattardi » Sun Feb 20, 2011 12:30 am

I am so disorganized in life, I never know the best way to organize things.

What kind of system do you all use for keeping track of your CPAP machine maintenance, service, cleanings, part replacement, etc? Right now I rely on my memory which doesn't always work too well.

You've got the software so I take it you also know how to get into the Clincians Menu on your S9. I'm not familiar w/the S9s but the S8s had a Reminders in the Clincians Menu that you could set the date and item (such as new mask) and in ResScan there is also a Reminders selection so you can go at it either way. You can also set a Reminder to change your filter .... the Reminder will pop up on your LCD screen and blink to catch your attention.

Your Users Manual suggests once a year to your local DME provider for "maintenance" which would amount to checking accuracy of pressure output w/a manometer and .... whatever.

In ResScan there is also a Notes section you can use to keep notes and reminders, etc.

Everybody here is on a computer , and I'll bet most of us use some form of computerized calendar--Outlook, iCal, Google Calendar, etc. You may also have some sort of alarm program. I schedule reminders on my Outlook calendar with alarms. It syncs with my smartphone, so the reminders go where I do. In my address book, I have notes on what item numbers I want to order, who to call, and a copy of my insurance company's replacement schedules.

If I ever lost my computer or my smartphone, I'd be very dumb.

Maintenance schedule? What maintenance schedule?
Is there an good example somewhere?
I was told nothing at the DME.
Well, I know that there's stuff in the manual; but is it truthful?

I was lucky that my DME even showed me how to use the machine when I first went on Cpap, when I got my last machine from a different DME they sent an RT out to my home, he set it up helped fit the mask and left me the manual.

I am with chunkyfrog on this one. Why keep up with it? My doctor tells me to get a new hose every three months. I have been using the same one for four years and it looks like it will go another four years. Cleaning a hose? Mine has not been cleaned in three years and I don't plan on cleaning it except for occasionally wiping down the connectors where there are some oils from my hand.

I look at the air filter from time to time and wash the foam one and replace the fiber filter when they start to look dirty.

Service? Four years and none needed. I keep a backup machine and if something goes wrong I will use it until I can buy a new main machine. I do recommend everyone keep a backup machine. When you travel you need to take the newest, least likely to break machine, assuming you do not want to carry along a backup machine. I take a spare hose and spare mask on trips.

Mask replacement is just when it seems to be showing signs of wear that may affect its performance. A mask lasts me one to two years and of course the manufacturers recommend you replace them much more often. Wonder why?
