#1 - According to the daily data and my own observations, my husband's events usually happen towards morning when he is probably in his deepest sleep stage(REM).

That's a good guess, Dori. It's a guess about what stage of sleep he's in toward morning, but that's a good guess.

One small clarification... REM isn't the "deepest" sleep stage. What I think you mean is that he's probably in his longest REM cycle towards morning.

N3 sleep is "deep" sleep. Deep sleep used to be called Stage 3 (and 4) but is now called "N3" for "Non-REM stage 3." N3 is sometimes referred to as "Slow wave sleep."

My father got a "sleep study" and they didn't do an EEG on him! They calculated his AHI and all other indices based on time in bed, not time asleep because they couldn't know when he was asleep. But there were graphs on the histograms that indicated position and activity, and in the wee hours of the morning he finally stopped moving for a chunk of time and there were suddenly a whole bunch of hypopneas and increased FLs, so I had to infer he was in REM then. What idiots do a sleep study without an EEG?!

Ugly, they could have detected the REM by other method such as eye movements. Same with re to being asleep vs. a wake by using the respiration flow morphology, ECG, and oxygen desaturation signals.

These statements weren't clear to me:

It sounds like you mean your AHI is 20 during treatment. Is this the case?
avi123 wrote: It seems to me that most posters with AHIs below 5 are not suffering mainly from OSA but have other ailments.
Did you mean AHI <5 sans treatment, or with?

RDI = AHI + RERA[/i]
My machine doesn't provide RDI. Is there a machine that does?
