Re: Help reading mi AHI
My doc would like my AHI to be 5 or less...I'm thinking wishful thinking at this point.

Which type of machine? Average?dominguezzzzzzz69 wrote:could someone help me with my numbers??
It would be helpful if you would register to the forum so that you will have access to the User Control Panel, from their you can go to your profile and equipment page to permanently add your machine, mask, humidifier, etc.
To know this information helps put that the numbers in proper perspective.
Less than 5 AHI is somewhat of a line in the sand for adequate treatment. Some need it to be even lower to feel better.
How do you feel?

Re: Help reading mi AHI
well somerimes i feel pretty good, but sometimes i still feel kind of wierd, i dont know if its adapting to my therapy or whats happening, last month i hardly used my cpap because of a really bad cold and an ear infection that im barely getting through , with time shoul i feel better??
Re: Help reading mi AHI
Yes, with time you should feel better. Some people it takes a long time and the feeling better is very gradual.
If you don't feel better you need to take a hard look at any number of things. That is why I asked about the 7 AHI. Is that an average? What machine? What pressure? How many hours a night do you use the machine? Leaks? I wouldn't be satisfied with AHI of 7 if I wasn't feeling good. For someone here to give you more than general ideas we need more information.
The generally accepted medical standard is AHI of less than 5. Some people even seem to need less to see an improvement.

Low pressure of 5-9 might simply not be quite enough. We cannot offer any ideas though because the other information I asked was not provided.Pugsy wrote: Is that an average? What machine? The M series machines show their AHI reports as a 7 and 30 day average. They show the leaks the same way. So where are you getting the reported AHI number?

Re: Help reading mi AHI
O and usually im getting 7-8 hours of sleep at night....
Re: Help reading mi AHI
Okay, to put all this together.
M series APAP with pressures 5-9. AHI average (don't know if it is the 7 day or 30 day) of 7 AHI.
Still uncertain as to leak. You mention a 40.0 number in first post and now a 0 to something. Is this your leak? Again is this the 7 day or 30 day average leak. The M series wouldn't be showing a zero leak.
If you would register and complete your user control profile and equipment page this would be simpler. You may have posted your mask and machine and such in another post but we don't always read every post. Besides, I wouldn't remember anyway.
Which type of mask being used is relative to leak rate and pressure. Type of mask will affect how much of a leak is acceptable.
In other words we only have minimal information to try to help you. You admit to not using the machine for a period of time due to upper respiratory issues. So how long have you been using it this time? You say you get 7 to 8 hours of sleep, do you use the machine the entire 7-8 hours? To get more than general ideas you have to give us more specific information.
So I can only say that an AHI of 7 could account for feeling lousy. It is above the accepted medical standard for effective treatment. We don't know if the treatment is less than effective due to mask leak or maybe too low of a starting pressure.
We don't have any software data to look at. I would suggest calling your doctor and tell them you have concerns and see if you can get the appointment for follow up moved up. Otherwise you are going to have to take a crash course in learning what your machine is or is not telling you and what to expect. I can't make more than general statements without specific information at hand.
