rested gal, I attended a meeting put on by our local sleep lab hospital.
Someone asked about taping the mouth shut and the leader warned against it. Said that if a person vomited and had their mouth taped that they risk the danger of choking to death. I hope this helps.

I know the taping-vomiting-aspiration subject has been beat to death here, but I've not seen this observation:
When my lips are taped, I can easily pop my jaw open in a fraction of a second, just as fast as if there were no tape at all, and considerably faster than I can remove a FF mask. After I demonstrated that to myself, I was able put the whole subject away.
