Just a whine/blatant bid for sympathy
Just a whine/blatant bid for sympathy
Hi all, haven't posted in awhile but had one of THOSE nights last night and came over here to read a little and make myself feel better. Started out the night exhausted, went to bed with my Softgel which is usually just pop 'n' snooze, but for some reason last night it Would. Not. Fit. It blasted me in the eyes, leaked at the chin, pinched off my nasal passages, and felt like an old smelly inner tube on my face. The headgear mangled my ears and the cushion squashed my lips. I finally yanked the lower strap of the headgear off my ear just right somehow and it began leaking everywhere; took it off and found it was detaching from the clip, started to mess with it in the dark, and and the cushion popped off altogether and bounced under the bed.
By now I'd been fidgeting for almost two hours, not to mention I knew the Softgel would be a dog-hair and dust-bunny mess from its under-bed voyage, so I said screw it and reached for my Swift LT, which was hanging on the other bedpost. I knew by morning I'd be drowning in condensation but I was at the "Please God, just let me fall asleep!" stage. Fumbled in the nightstand for a fresh nasal pillow, congratulated myself that I was such an old pro I could put it on the mask by touch in the dark. Pulled the mask on, and the back strap let go (if you have an LT, you know the back strap has that strange, ineffective Velcro-like closure). I couldn't get it to feed back through the clip. By the time I finally got it, my dogs that usually sleep in my room had abandoned me, gone into hiding because of my thrashing and cursing. My footwarmer cat had gotten disgusted and stalked off long ago.
Of course, after refastening the strap, now the adjustment was off. Then somehow the top straps tangled so it wanted to sit on my head with the hose clip facing down. Meanwhile the pillows are squirting air and reminding me I need to fumble back into the nightstand and find my Lansinoh (somehow I've decided that turning on the light will be the thing that finally makes sleep impossible. Yeah, right.) In my cold bedroom, the Lansinoh is about the consistency of concrete, so I had to warm it under the covers for a minute to get some out. Sure enough, by this morning I was snorting frigid water, and the dogs have decided the only wise course of action is to lay low all day. They're right, too.
Okay, that's it, poor me, wah wah wah. You wouldn't think I'd been doing this every single night without fail for more than two years now. Usually it's so routine, I hardly think about it -- mask up and off to dreamland.
On my way to the Sleepzone site to get an Aussie hose, and then to cpap.com to get the Swift FX I've been coveting and a new cushion for my UltraMirage. That would have been my second choice last night had I not known the old cushion is about as airtight as cheesecloth.
Thanks for "listening"! And the dogs send a thank-you, too, for deflecting at least part of my kvetching this morning!

Mine too. Hadn't used it in a while. Didn't think to warm it up, just dug out a glob of it with hubby's belt buckle thing. Reminds me I had better go clean it.
So sorry for your bad night. I made the mistake of allowing the 3 cats and the 3 dogs sleep with me. Dogs chased the cats all over me all night last night.
If you liked the Swift LT I think you will like the FX. Back strap is still a bit of a slip around strap but the other comforts make up for that annoyance. Much easier to adjust than the LT. Not too much there to get wrong.

Don't fret about whinning, we all do it and it does help to get things off your chest. We also all have a night like yours every once in a while, no matter what we do, sleep just isn't happening.
You will have a better night tonight and those ZZZZZZZ's will be just what you want and need. Give the pooches and kitty each a big hug to remind them they didn't do anything wrong.
Cheers

You have my sympathy! A bad night feels like it never ends...and the next day is usually awful.
Here's hoping for a better night tonight!

Re: Just a whine/blatant bid for sympathy
I have been having those kinds of nights for the last few days. On the weekend I moved a lot of boxes and 2 washing machines in and out of position and suddenly the muscles in the upper back screamed "Enough!". The last few nights I have been waking up at 2 am with what feels like every muscles in the upper body spasming when I tried to turn over.
It has been totally frustrating the last few days not being able to put more then 6 screws into the wall per day, not lifting things, not shovelling snow (ok that one was impossible, I had to move the car for street cleaning and IT.DID.NOT.STOP.SNOWING!) I guess that is why I enjoined skewering the troll so much.

I wish I could give you a spoon or two, the spoon fairy left a couple under my pillow this morning. Hope you're feeling better soon, sorry you had a bad night but you certainly had me grinning as I was reading.
I'm not sure skewer is a strong enough word. Pretty good job I thought. It reminded me of a time when I saw a racoon coming out of my chimney. It was a young one and it couldn't find a way down from the roof. I grabbed a "hav-a-heart" trap and set it on the corner of the roof with food, of course. It was so cute and friendly I thought I could just grab it and bring it to safety. It acted just like a baby cat would have (I think). It came right to me and was curious and appeared completely domestic and friendly. I coaxed it into the trap and the door slammed down right behind its tail. The chaos it embodied after it knew it was trapped would have paled even Roster! Claws and teeth everywhere, the wires of the trap didn't seem thick enough. Your post had me grinning too. Thanks.BlackSpinner wrote:

Re: Just a whine/blatant bid for sympathy
I understand exactly where you're coming from. Just don't give up. I started out on a Mirage SoftGel mask and thought I could find better... so I got a Swift FX nasal pillows mask with all size pillows, and a Circadiance SleepWeaver cloth mask. Two nights of hell, waking up constantly either due to pain in my nostrils (pillows) or the mask leaking and making terrible noises (cloth mask), and didn't feel rested either night. I switched midway through the night back to the SoftGel and it is SO much more comfortable and quieter, and I actually got a good sleep (and didn't wake up my bed partner). Sometimes the grass isn't greener. But there will be a green grass pasture for you, you've just got to keep looking to find your match!!
Re: Just a whine/blatant bid for sympathy
I've had my machine less than three weeks and I had been feeling a little down this morning after a rough night (and I had been doing so well!). Your post made me smile and made me see that even the "experts" have bad nights too. Good luck solving your problems and thanks again for the laugh.

It may not do much for you. But, I certainly enjoyed reading it. I guess it's true that misery loves company. I had a miserable night of it too. But, reading your post made me laugh my head off!
Thanks.
Thanks.

From your narration of your terrible night, the first thing I thought of was Carol Burnett or Ruth Buzzy in one of their skits where things go from bad to worse. If we didn't laugh we'd cry. Here's hoping for better nights soon.

Sorry my insomnia monster paid you a visit instead of me last night.
I'd have turned the light on I think. I'll thrash around in the dark trying to fix something for a few minutes, but not two hours. Then again, I'm blind as a bat in the daytime without my glasses. So sans glasses and light, there's no chance ....
Hoping for a better night for you to night ...
And you've got a great sense of humor ....
