Can OSA cause water retention in the legs and feet? I just feel like at my age I should not have to stay home because my feet and legs are so swollen I am in pain and cant socialize.
Pregnancy did this in a major fashion for me years ago.........so count your blessings! At least it's not that.

I can't stop laughing. Thank you for the humor!

The problem was the med in relation to me, not me, cause the metolazone works just fine. I have not had weeping edema since then. I do take care to keep my legs up in the recliner much of the time or I'm sure I'd find myself in trouble again.

Several years ago tests showed my heart to have a slightly thickened wall and I carry the diagnosis of cardiomegaly. The last time I had an echo done, it reported no enlargement.

This is what the doctor has me on as of today. I am also taking a potassium pill at the same time. I did not go to the bathroom any more than normal today, so I hope that is not a bad thing. My blood pressure pill also has a water component to it. One would think I would be in diapers about now due to the need to go, but the need to go is not there. I just realized that the some may question my kidneys, but they are good. The doctor in December checked my blood work for my kidneys and they are fine.

Same had been the case with me too, severe edema in both legs, once started with CPAP the same has considerably been under control, my doctors suggestion is to abstain from drinking water after 9.00PM and during sleeping hours, unrestricted water during awake hours.

A long walk always helps me to reduce swelling immediatelly.

Hope this will be helpful

Kahfree, I just suggest you not go thru prolonged discomfort and swelling before telling the doctor something different needs to be done. I can see giving it a chance to work, but if it is not, it is not.

Your doctor might be referring to venous insufficiency where the one-way valves in the veins of the leg become insufficient to prevent blood from flowing backwards (back down the leg) between heartbeats.

Don't Google venous insufficiency because it will only depress you and it may be for naught. If you don't have varicose veins, then wait until the doc figures it out. Even if you have varicose veins it doesn't mean you have venous insufficiency. Below I cut-and-pasted some symptom info. Walking and elevating your legs, not at the same time, can provide temporary relief.

Patients with venous insufficiency often report subjective symptoms that are typically bothersome early in the disease, become less severe in the middle phases, and then worsen again with advancing age.

* Even small telangiectasias are often symptomatic. More than one half of patients who present with telangiectasias smaller than 1 mm in diameter report symptoms that abate after treatment. Common symptoms include the following:
o Burning
o Swelling
o Throbbing
o Cramping
o Aching
o Heaviness
o Restless legs
o Leg fatigue

Kahfree, honey, I hope you and your doc find a solution quickly. Edema isn't typically a problem for me, but it was for awhile when I was pregnant. My OB told me then to watch my salt and sugar intake, because the water goes where the salt & sugar are. This might not be pertinent to your situation, but it's easy and cheap to eat less sugar & salt. And it certainly won't HURT anything. Good luck!
