RESMED Swift FX mask - vent hole NIGHTMARE!!

My Swift FX is relatively quiet unless and until it blows the exhaust onto something/anything. If I put my hand up to the exhaust to check that it is working, not only can I feel it on my hand, I can hear it. If I sleep on my side such that the exhaust hits the mattress, I hear it. If I sleep on my back so that the exhaust doesn't hit anything, I don't hear it.

I do so love the position of the vent on Aeiomed's Headrest nasal pillows mask. The exhaust is located high up nearly at hairline level and vents straight up like a little chimney. Never hits anything when sleeping in any position. Doesn't hit my arm (a MAJOR pet peeve of mine with other masks) when side sleeping nor the bed pillow or bedcovers or mattress when sleeping in any position including on stomach, nor the bed partner.

Can pull the covers completely over top of head and burrow the face down against any kind of pillow without blocking the exhaust or causing noise. I'm a toss'n'turn sleeper so there are plenty of opportunities for any mask to vent against something many times during the night. The Headrest simply doesn't.

Does make an audible shusssssh sound with every inhalation. But to not have exhaust air hitting anything at all -- how nice that is!!

Hi All. I read all the posts as I was also looking for a solution.
What i do is have the hose go over my head, and rest over a throw pillow that is on the back wall/headboard of my bed. A hose rod would be a better idea, though.
The nasal pillow diffuser is a real pain for my RESMED SWIFT FX, and while I like Greg-G's idea, I am scared of the carbon dioxide staying in the chamber, even though his post says the pressure stays the same.
The over the head idea will help, but Resmed needs to change the angle hose if it wants to make the customers happy and re-buying.
Other than the fact that this an expensive mask for the smallness of its size, the flaws of the diffuser makes me want to look elsewhere when this one gets older.

Come on RESMED...listen and fix this!

I don't know, mine fits like it was made for me. Even the timiest hiss only happens when it needs adjusting - wiggle my nose and it's good. My dog doesn't like it though - when I sleep on my side the outlet points right at him. Why do dogs (except mine) like to put their face out the car window at 40mph, but when something actively blows in their face it drives them nuts?

I don't refer to the hiss of the plug in my nostrils, but rather the diffuser, which is the part on the plastic bend that connects to the hose. The diffuser ejects excess air and carbon dioxide out-breath from your nose. That is the part your dog finds annoying, and what most people refer to as a cold shot of air hitting their arm or partner and causing that 'freezing feeling' (which is funny because my air is heated but yet is still cold too).

If i were in the design room working on a better diffuser, I'd recommend one that pushed out in more directions allowing less of a stream of air in 1 direction. Another idea would be to offer an attachment to deflect/direct the air where you want with minimal noise.

The other poster who offered their model as an alternative to the Resmed Swift FX that had a hose attachment with 2 skinny hoses that go over your mask...and over your forehead ... well i had a look, and that one is very freaking looking! Seems way too much clutter and opportunity to break...the Swift FX is perfect size.

The darn 45 degree angle is a problem. The vent is almost inescapable--it's extremely annoying. If it's not blowing on you, it's bouncing off the bedclothes right back at you.

The only solution I have found is a hose hanger. That makes the hose come from the ceiling instead of from the floor, and then the vent holes blow UP and OUT instead of down and in. So the vent flow is less likely to hit a solid object and make noise, and less likely to blow on you or bounce off something to blow on you.

I'd like to find the person who thought the 45 degree angle was a good idea and make HIM (I'm sure it is a male!) wear the darn mask every night for a week!

This is the best advice I've ever found on the internet. After a week of wrestling with my mask I drove a small nail into the wall about 1.5 feet above the head of my bed and fastened the hose junction there with a large rubber band. The hose hangs down towards my face, venting up and away from me. Even better, when I roll left or right the swivel on the front of the hose adjusts to my movement, so the vent winds up pointing up and away. Once I did this I slept perfectly. The mask does need to be adjusted to it's "sweet spot" - if it hurts it's too tight, and if it whooshes then it's too loose. You have to keep adjusting the black bands until neither occurs. In the motel, I used packing tape and scrunchies from the dollar store to sub for the hose manager I left at home.
At my brother's house, we used rubber bands and clothespins clipped to the curtains.
At home, the arrangement is more complex: plant hangers, duck tape, fishing poles, and, you guessed it, scrunchies.

I also tried the FX with no luck. It leaked and made noises! I never did get used to it so I just moved onto another nasal mask. It seems to just be poorly designed for most people. Sad.

ResMed just came out with a new nasal pillow that is quieter it is called Airfit P10 Nasal Pillow Mask. It is the new replacement for swift fx

I'm wondering if the vents in that model still "point down" rather than out or even up. Since the vent on the Swift FX is part of the hose, you can move the hose overhead to change the vent direction. The vents on that new model are part of the pillow assembly, and if they point down and away then you can't change their direction. Anybody who has this model care to comment?

If the new ResMed nasal pillow mask has more diffuse venting, that solves a lot of problems. It shouldn't make nearly as much noise blowing on a pillow, sheet, or blankets...will be testing it out soon.
